Geosmin, that earthy smell you notice after it rains. Turns out that the bacteria that make it use it to attract insects so that their bacterial spores can hitch a ride on these critters to spread them far and wide! https://t.co/LtPtxPboY5
@joe_turner177 Robert Sapolsky's book "Behave: The biology of humans at our best and worst" touches upon this. Pseudospeciation, even just a little, can lead us to see others as "inferior" or "non-human". We all have the capacity to become a Nazi because we all share the same human flaws.
There's a Facebook group with 6,000 members dedicated to designing open-source COVID-19 medical supplies.
The group is sharing CAD files for ventilators, respirators, and equipment that can be fabricated in emergency conditions.
Absolutely inspiring

@AskTSA I have a real Coyote skull that I have cleaned (Detergent then hydrogen peroxide), can I bring this with me on either checked baggage or carry on?
@robinhanson@SamHarrisOrg No, it's not mosquitoes that are dangerous it's the pathogens they transmit! Instead of killing them we can prevent them from transmitting these infections using the bacteria Wolbachia that stop the viruses from replicating within the mosquitoes! Job Done.
