H. ducreyi (D like "deca") = needs X
H. parainfluenzae and H. parahemolyticus (P like "penta") = needs V
H. influenzae and H. hemolyticus = require both X and V
Twitter is now "X" but the real X is hemin on Haemophilus quad plates! Different Haemophilus species require X (hemin) and/or V (NAD) factors to grow. Each quad on the plate has different media, so you can ID the species based on the growth pattern (see memory helper below)
