@JohnBoy117 @KatParmar This compares starting salaries. You’d see similar if you compared other grades. The pension was more generous back then (‘95 scheme) and required much lower contributions. Also you got free accommodation back in ‘05. And barely if any student loan. Not now!

@LesleyG78347579 @DemelzaKlass @jardinmondial Anaesthetists (we don’t call ourselves anaesthesiologists in the UK) use more maths than most medical specialities. Lots of calculations for the physics and pharmacology we use. Need good numeracy but didn’t need formal maths teaching beyond 16.

@OJS50 … many Drs receiving 5-figure tax bills annually. Some bills larger than post tax pay. You may not care about doctors as individuals but you should care about how this is impacting on patient care.

@OJS50 1) Not necessarily. 2) would result in having no pension… not an easy solution. 3) The NHS needs doctors. Pensions tax is crippling thousands of senior drs, many of whom have been forced to retired early or cut hours. Much better to have drs working (and paying income tax!)

@copdawoot @fedupfish @JeremyVineOn5 It’s to do with annual and lifetime allowance limits and is resulting in GPs and hospital doctors receiving surprise 5 figure tax bills. It’s forcing Drs to limit their hours and retire early as it’s too expensive to work. Gvt aware but haven’t acted.
