​Under the pale moon, you're a trick of the light,
A ghost in my doorway on a lonely night.
I reach out to hold you, but my hands just freeze,
Tracing a memory in the midnight breeze.

​I whispered the words I couldn't say before,
As your pale light drifted across the floor.
You smiled through the silence, no need to speak,
A phantom waltz, cheek to freezing cheek.

​Just a dance in the dark, where the shadows start,
Holding a ghost who still holds my heart.

​The morning sun begins to break the spell,
A silent kiss, a glowing, soft farewell.
I open my eyes to an empty room,
Chasing the shadows of your sweet perfume.
But there on the glass where the dawn shines through,
A fading handprint, my proof of you.

Rain is falling down on a one-way street.
I still have that sweater you left by the door,
I don't even know what I'm keeping it for.
It’s 2 AM and the city is asleep,
But I’ve got all these promises I couldn't keep.

​’Cause we were neon lights in a faded town,
Spinning so fast we were bound to break down.
You played the chords, and I wrote the words,
We were the sweetest song that nobody heard.
Now it's midnight, and I'm wide awake,
Counting the pieces of a beautiful mistake.

​I saw your car parked outside the diner,
You always swore their cherry pie was finer.
Did you look at the window, did you think of me?
Or am I just a ghost in your history?
I trace the outline of your name on the glass,
Watching our forever turn into the past.

Beyond the Grey Mist

​The hearth is cold, the embers turned to ash,
The winter wind beats hard against the glass.
I’ve worn this heavy coat of skin and bone,
Waiting in the silence, growing old alone.

​Then through the floorboards, where the shadows creep,
A single silver flower wakes from sleep.
It bleeds a pale and milky kind of light,
And there you stand, my love, dressed in white.

​Oh, the grey mist is parting now,
I’m leaving this frail body, I don't know how.
You hold your hand out in the freezing dark,
The only light I need, my missing spark.
I leave the heavy earth, I leave the night,
Hand in hand, we step into the light.

​My knuckles bruised, my fingers cold as clay,
I thought the earth had washed your face away.
But then your fingers brush against my chest,
Pulling the heavy sorrow from my breast.
You pull me upward, and the timber groans,
I'm stepping out of these old, tired bones.

​No backwards glance, no tears left here to cry,
Just leave the empty shell to slowly die.
The winter took my youth, but you took me,
Out of the cage and finally breaking free.

​Winter, circa 1800. In the peaceful countryside, on the very outskirts of London, stood their home. They were a husband and wife who loved each other beyond measure, and their house was their safe haven.

One day, he placed a flower on her grave. He no longer felt cold; he felt a gentle breeze. Years flowed into decades. He lived a full, peaceful life, always keeping a corner of his heart for her.

"Damn you," he whispered. The traitor was shackled and dragged away into the cold night. Winter turned to spring. She finally rested in peace beneath an elegant monument.
