The Embassy of Israel to the United Kingdom categorically rejects the unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state announced today by the Government of the United Kingdom.

This misguided declaration harms any forward-looking prospect of peace and serves only to reward terrorism, providing a destabilising boost to those who continue to pursue violence as a means to political solutions.

The Palestinian Authority has not proven itself to be an effective or responsible governing body. It continues to glorify terrorism, promote antisemitism, and incite violence through its “pay-for-slay” policy and poisonous indoctrination in education.

The timing of this recognition, almost exactly two years after the October 7th massacre and on the eve of the Jewish New Year, offers Hamas and its supporters a cause for celebration, while inflicting pain upon the victims of terror and their families.

Israel will not accept externally imposed “imaginary texts” or indefensible borders while terrorism remains a central pillar of Palestinian politics. Foreign domestic considerations cannot be allowed to shape the future security of the people of Israel.

If the United Kingdom truly wishes to advance peace and stability in the Middle East, it must focus its efforts on confronting Hamas and above all, on securing the release of the 48 hostages who remain in captivity in Gaza.
