Back during the 2010 Olympics, I created a guide called WHERE TO BE FOR FREE to help people experience the excitement of the Games without spending a dime. It attracted millions of views and helped showcase just how much Vancouver had to offer.
Now, Destination Vancouver has done it again for FIFA World Cup 2026 with a fantastic FREE EVENT listing featuring some of the best places to experience the energy, culture, and excitement of the tournament.

After I received the Meritorious Service Medal at Rideau Hall in Ottawa from the Governor General of Canada, the Honourable Louise Arbour, the Rideau Hall staff invited me to do a move or two. It was time to test if I could do it in the limits of a suit 😊. Now I am inviting our bureaucrats to try this in their own suits 😄
Thank you to the residents of the Sunrise neighbourhood for opening your doors and sharing your hopes for Vancouver.
We had conversations about taxes, traffic, parking, parks, and the amenities that help neighbourhoods thrive.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to listen and learn. If I can help with a City Hall issue, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Looking forward to many more conversations in the weeks ahead! ✊🏡🌞
Excited to help officially open the new permanent plaza at Main Street and East 14th Avenue!
These vibrant public spaces make our neighbourhoods more welcoming, support local businesses, and create places where people can gather and connect.
Proud to join fellow councillors, Mount Pleasant BIA Executive Director Neil Wyles, and community members for the ribbon cutting. Here’s to many great years ahead! 🎉
One of the things I'm most humbled by as Mayor, alongside an incredible ABC Vancouver team, is the opportunity to meet the people who make this city what it is.
I've had so many great conversations with residents, business owners, workers, and visitors, and it's been wonderful to see people out enjoying Vancouver and sharing their thoughts on the progress we've made together.
It was an honour to speak with a resident who has called Vancouver home for more than 40 years and to hear their perspective on how our city has changed over time.
Thank you to everyone who has helped make this World Cup such a success and helped Vancouver welcome the world.
We're committed to working every day to keep Vancouver safe, affordable, and vibrant so that the energy we're seeing today continues long after the tournament is over.

Door knocking with my 5-year-old — likely the youngest volunteer! 👶
While I spoke with residents & listened to their feedback, he took his role very seriously, carefully recording notes in his little notebook. 📝😆
It’s never too early to learn the importance of listening, community service & giving back. Proud to have my little helper by our side. ❤️
8 pm on Granville Street, Downtown Vancouver.
A few people in Canada jerseys, but the atmosphere has shifted from this afternoon's disappointment to celebration, as Mexican fans take over the street after their win over the Czech Republic. 🇨🇦🇲🇽⚽ #FIFAWorldCup#WeAreVancouver
The Last Mile is alive with Canadian pride! 🇨🇦⚽️
Team Canada fans are marching to BC Place with huge energy ahead of today’s World Cup match against Switzerland.
Let’s go Canada! 🍁 #CANMNT#FWCVancouver
Honoured to attend the naming celebration for the new Fuller-Findlay Housing Co-op in Vancouver’s West End.
Janine Fuller and Barbara Findlay have spent decades standing up for the rights, dignity, and inclusion of 2SLGBTQIA+ people in our city and across Canada. Their leadership has helped make Vancouver a more welcoming and equitable place for countless people.
It’s fitting that their legacy will live on through affordable co-op housing in the heart of Davie Village. Congratulations to the Community Land Trust, @QMUNITY, and all the partners who helped make this important project a reality. 🌈🏠 @CLTrust@CityofVancouver
Even the grandparents in Norway 🇳🇴 weren’t left out of the party!
These legends are straight-up vibing in the hallway Rowing and holding the Norway Flag This is what it’s all about, generations celebrating together ❤️
It will be a tragic own goal if Vancouver gives Granville Street back to cars after the World Cup. It has created a valuable new centre of gravity in the downtown. The city is much better for it. @BrentToderian
30 years ago, I was the little boy holding a soccer ball.
Today, I’m holding my son, who shares the same love for the beautiful game. ⚽️
Soccer has given me much more than wins and losses. It has been about dreams, growth, friendships, and memories that span generations.
Tomorrow, I’ll be cheering proudly for Team Canada and celebrating a sport that inspires so many young people to dream big. Go Canada Go! 🇨🇦⚽️
Five of our #VPD horses and their riders will have the honour of leading tomorrow’s fan march as Team Canada supporters make their way to the stadium for the 12:00 p.m. match against Switzerland. We’re proud to play a small part in supporting Team Canada and helping create a safe and memorable experience for fans.
You’re welcome to meet our officers and their horses along the route, but please remember to give the horses plenty of space and not to touch them.
Larry, Kingston, Angus, Bud, and Nelson are a mix of Clydesdale, Percheron Draft, Quarter Horse Cross, and Thoroughbred Cross horses. Each weighs between 1,600 and 1,800 pounds, and together they represent the strength, professionalism, and tradition of the VPD Mounted Unit.
