This is Drew Kortan and John Gramer watching Moorhead warmup at the 2017 state tournament. They were 7 years old and dreaming of being down there on the ice.
Tonight, they won state championship as sophomores.

A statewide culture of community/not-for-profit ice arenas is the most underappreciated (and important) part of Minnesota’s hockey success.
-1/59 of Americans are MN
-1/10 of Americans that play hockey are MN
-1/5 of American men & 1/3 women in NHL/PWHL are MN
Thank you Delano!
We are excited to announce the opening of our new community outdoor rink, a project years in the making!
This rink provides a much-needed solution for our hockey community, where boys and girls ages 4–19 previously shared one sheet of ice.
With this expansion, we now have the capacity to offer more ice time, support player development, and better match the facilities available in other surrounding communities.
Families can skate outside at no cost, or purchase a pass for access to the refrigerated ice rink.
During the summer months, the large pavilion will serve as a flexible space for community events and gatherings.
Thank you to everyone who helped bring this vision to life!

2025 NHL Draft for MN
17 of 52 (33%) US players picked from MN (next closest state at 5)
12 played MN-HS (3 in ‘25 State tourney)
Since 2000, 308 (23%) of US players picked from MN (next closest state is MI at 150 (11%))
7.6% of all players picked are Minnesotans
More eye-opening stats on @MinnHockey leading the way on elite player development with triple the draft picks of any other state. Michigan and Massachusetts had the 5th/6th most. WOW.
These two states continue to go further into the professional model and MN continues to win.
I’d love for people in these states to stand up and say enough is enough. Too expensive and too much narrowing of the talent pyramid too early DOES NOT lead to more elite players. Data continues to show the exact opposite.
Thanks @louissnee99 for the breakdown.
Nine years and seven championships later, we’ve achieved what many thought impossible in college hockey. We fought hard until the very end.
To all the supporters of AIC hockey, we are incredibly grateful.
To my amazing wife and family, what a journey it has been. I wouldn’t have traded it for anything in the world. To our dedicated alumni, your belief in our program has been unwavering, supporting us from day one to that final puck drop.
To my incredible assistant coaches, your commitment helped to build this success. I am forever indebted to you; no one has ever accomplished so much with so little.
To my players, I love each and every one of you. I look forward to celebrating weddings, becoming a dad, and life’s journey alongside you.
Coach Wright, I hope we made you proud of the program.
To my alma mater, thank you for the opportunity and your faith in me. I will always be a Yellowjacket.
LFG 🐝😢
We couldn’t have said it better. Not only did Mason win a State championship with his lifelong friends, but he inspired the next generation of Moorhead kids who now want to be just like him when they grow up. Well done, Mason!
