Does this mean I can start telling people I’m aging in reverse?
I’m about to pull a Brian Johnson and tell people I’m in the top 0.001% of 18 year olds.
Masters runners are ready to win the longevity biomarker game if we switch to the mile as king of aging.
We need to see men in their 40’s and 50’s busting out a 6 minute mile before listening to talk of their “biological age” being decades younger. Why doesn’t this youthfulness express itself in an objectively measurable way?
The sit and reach was my nemesis.
I always failed the presidential fitness test because my flexibility sucked.
It turns out...that was a good thing. Worse flexibility correlates with better running economy.
A deep dive on flexibility on my new YouTube: @ SteveMagness
Hydration is good.

But for Joe the jogger... you likely don't...
Many elite distance runners have horrible flexibility.
They can't come close to touching their toes.
Why? A stiff spring can be beneficial.
Some research found the worse you do in the sit and reach test, the better your running economy.
Boys finish 4th at Nike Cross Nationals. So proud of this group & seniors.
Underclassmen, the future is now in your hands. Dream big, Believe, work hard.
Youth sports take advantage of parent desperation.
College (and life) is so expensive. Sports is one path towards $$$.
Youth sports leagues & coaches sell false dreams.
The reality: All the travel team/private coaching makes zero difference for the vast majority of kids.
The beauty of track and field is there's no faking it, no hiding behind teammates on rough days. You're exposed, vulnerable. It's you, alone, out on that track.
This sport will humble you, even those who are among the top in the world.
