@sofcethics Thanks to Jennifer Herdt and all of the members of the SCE board, cabinet, nominating & program committees, Journal editors & board, staff from the Talley group, & all the other committees and members who have had a part in putting together this excellent meeting.
@MatthewBArbo Has anyone collected this information recently? Some of SCE initiatives over the last 2 decades mentioned the decline of ethics positions and courses. At my institution, Perkins School of Theology, we have a required Moral Theology course.
Grateful for my fall 2013 Intro to Theology students who set me up on twitter so that we could have - and even project -- our class twitter feed. (Most of them can't be tagged here because of the picture). #MyTwitterAnniversary
Scott Moore of the Texas Conference talked with us about transformational leadership models in his presentation
Individual Consideration and Transformational Leadership in a Post-Way-Forward Era. #umscholars19
@jmendle08 I do but only because I've read about it. For some reason, that wasn't a part of the Christian education for my 0-10 year old Arkansas Methodist self.
Ashley Boggan Dreff talking about changes in ethical models in the 1960s. Ashley and I did a podcast together through the Happy Hippie Jesus Show entitled “A Sex Type Thing.” I can’t link it because the church filters think it is racy (but it isn't.) #umscholars19
Grateful for Sam Persons Parkes who is helping us think about how to support and provide a healthy context for LGBTQIA youth and young adults in his presentation - "Am I My Sibling’s Keeper?: A Practical Guide to Preserving LGBTQIA+ Life" #umscholars19
#umscholarsbooklist I recommend historian Ashley Boggan Dreff's Entangled: A History of American Methodism, Politics, and Sexuality. She is speaking right after lunch today.
I was fascinated by Christian DeLaRosa's reflections on young people and the embrace of fragmentation and multiplicity in "Considerations of Nepantla for Latinx United Methodists." Ana Maria Rodriguez - "I have many perspectives in myself." #umscholars19
@BlairTStowe We just asked. The leadership group decided not to record or livestream discussions for several reasons - because the release forms would be much more complicated in that case and because the discussion would not be as free. I'm happy to talk to people on the twitter feed!
@BlairTStowe That's an interesting point. There is no snark so far ... mainly just my pics and short descriptions. But I tend to provide my snark in person and not by tweet, so I may not be much help on this one. #umscholars19
Wes Allen of Perkins School of Theology speaking to UM Scholars on “Methodaltry” and helping us rethink our theology of “the unity of the universal church.” #umscholars19
Jodie Lyon of the University of Georgia on "Changing Minds by Changing Ethical Frameworks: Thinking Teleologically About Sex", speaking at #umscholars19
