Earaches on landing (airplane ear) happen because cabin pressure rises fast as the plane descends. Your Eustachian tubes sometimes can't equalize the middle-ear pressure quickly enough, stressing the eardrum.
Yawn, swallow, chew gum, or try a gentle Valsalva (pinch nose + soft blow) to help pop them! Common and usually harmless.
