I’m sick of this “exercise is better than antidepressants” discourse. Not everyone can exercise. Not everyone wants to exercise. Not everyone with depression can find the energy within themselves to exercise.
GPs, Nurses, Therapists, Healthcare Workers... In fact the whole of society needs to stop looking at people with eating disorders and making a decision that they are recovered based on their bodies!

‘Eating disorders are being swept under the carpet. No one should be dying of an eating disorder in 2023. Those with eating disorders need action and help and they need it now.’
“We don’t give up on patients with physical illnesses, we find different treatment methods which work for them. And yet, with eating disorders, it’s still a case of one-size-fits-all. Why aren’t we setting people up to have a chance of recovery?”

Full recovery from an eating disorder is possible and we need to be setting people up for that not giving up on them when they aren’t recovering at the rate others think they “should be”
“We have hit a complete crisis when it comes to eating disorder treatment, decades of underfunding, decades of stigma and people being left with no care and dying”

Recovering from an eating disorder = intentionally doing uncomfortable, distressing things multiple times a day. Every day. For a considerable time.
It’s cruel to expect ppl to do this alone. This is why *effective* support is so important. Yet so many can’t access support.
I’m doing a giveaway of my book for #EatingDisordersAwarenessWeek. To enter all you need to do is follow me, like and retweet this tweet! UK entrants only. I’ll announce the winner on Friday. Good luck!
Eating Disorder Awareness Week starts Monday, the 27th of February, and runs till Sunday, the 5th of March.
This week is designed to help educate people about eating disorders and to provide a spotlight and help to those affected by an eating disorder and their loved ones.
Eating disorders are a serious mental health issue often hidden in plain sight - they have the highest mortality rate of any other psychiatric illness
No-one should be condemned to a life of illness, nor should anyone be dying of an eating disorder

So proud. Yesterday I filmed something really special for @BBCTheOneShow ahead of eating disorders awareness week. Will keep you updated when it is aired next week as would love you to watch. We must get more support for those affected by eating disorders @SeedSupportUK#EDAW2023
Ahead of #eatingdisorderawarenessweek next week, my book is on special offer on Amazon for only £4.79. One of the main reasons I wanted to write my book was to help raise awareness of eating disorders, & to hopefully help others.

Sometimes I don’t think we really want to hear about mental illness. I sense discomfort when I speak about my living experience not selections from lived experience. There’s no substantial support that’s often required to include people when less well. Tokenism is still rife.
