Fast revenue has an unsexy secret: contract hygiene.
✅ Approved terms.
✅ Clear guardrails (what Sales can concede).
✅ A decide-by time on every exception.
✅ A single owner who can close.
You don’t need better persuasion.
You need fewer open loops.
If contracts take weeks, here’s what’s usually true:
Redlines aren’t the blocker.
Permission is.
No threshold. No pre-approved fallbacks. No decider when it gets messy.
Set the playbook once, then let deals move without a weekly rescue meeting.
You’re losing deals while your contract sits in Legal’s queue.
Not because Legal is slow.
Because nobody owns the close.
One owner. One SLA. One escalation path.
Otherwise your “sales cycle” is just waiting in a shared inbox.
Meetings multiply when nobody has permission to close.
So the org invents safety:
• alignment sessions
• more data
• stakeholder check-ins
Speed doesn’t come from more talking.
It comes from clear decision rights and closure.
If a decision keeps reopening, one of these is missing:
An owner.
A deadline.
A definition of “done.”
A written trade-off.
Fix those and the meeting count collapses.
You’re in the third meeting about the same decision.
That’s not “thorough.” That’s an unowned call.
Name the decider.
Write the trade-off.
Set a decide-by time.
Otherwise you’re just paying salaries to rehearse opinions.
If you keep holding back because it feels “too obvious,” try this question:
What are you waiting for permission to say?
Write the line. Post the insight. Make the call.
Clarity beats polish.
When you’re bored with your own message, your audience is probably just hearing it for the first time.
Stop waiting for the “perfect” version.
Ship the clear version.
The point isn’t novelty. It’s usefulness.
I found myself thinking, “I’ve already said this.”
Then I remembered: repetition is usually where the value is.
If it’s a pattern you’ve seen 50 times, it’s probably the thing you actually know.

They think they need more data.
More analysis.
More stakeholder input.
Wrong. Most stuck decisions fail the 3 basics.
A simple rule that speeds everything up:
If it’s reversible, decide fast and move.
If it’s irreversible, slow down and write it down.
Treating every call like a one-way door is how you get “great decisions” that arrive too late.
Most teams don’t lose to competitors with better ideas.
They lose to competitors who decide faster, ship sooner, and learn in public.
If a decision keeps reopening, it’s not a thinking problem.
It’s an ownership + deadline problem.
Your decisions aren’t bad. They’re just slow.
And slow decisions don’t stay “neutral.”
They turn into rework, second-guessing, and teams building around the silence.
Quality matters.
Velocity decides whether the quarter lives.
When people don’t feel competent, they reach for process.
When they don’t feel safe, they reach for permission.
“We need more data” is often code for:
“I don’t like the trade-off yet.”
Try this:
“If we had to decide by 3 pm today, what would we do?”
Not perfect. Usually honest.

If you could do both, you would.
You can’t. That’s the point.
Name the constraint.
Put the trade-off on paper with numbers.
Assign an owner + a revisit date.
Then make the call in the room.
Most decisions don’t need more data.
They need someone willing to kill an option.
The loop isn’t “which is better?”
It’s “what constraint makes one impossible right now?”
One team. One quarter. $50K. Two hires.
Pick. Then ship.
