At the recommendation of my physician, I am submitting my resignation as Head Coach of the Mingo Central High School Girls Basketball program. Though a leave of absence would have been my preference but not an option, I will resign in order that a new staff can be organized and will assist in the transition as needed.
For the past six years, it has been both an honor and a privilege to serve this program and community. Together, we have achieved many successes on and off the court—successes that go far beyond wins and losses. The relationships built with players, coaches, families, and the greater Mingo Central community are what I will cherish most. Mingo Central is truly my home, and I will always take great pride in knowing our players and staff set records and made history in the toughest region of basketball in the state. Those successes made the Lady Miner program well-known throughout West Virginia.
This decision has been extremely difficult but due to ongoing medical issues and the need to prioritize my health and time with my family, it is necessary to step away. I remain deeply grateful for the support, trust, and encouragement I have received from the administration, my fellow coaches, the media, the community and most importantly, the student-athletes who have made this journey so rewarding.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to lead and represent the Mingo Central Girls Basketball team! I will always be a proud supporter of the school and program. I look forward to seeing continued growth and success of Mingo Central High School on and off the court! The Mountain will always be home to me!
Always and Forever a Miner,
Coach Kim Davis-Smith
