I thought I was saving my Shiba's life. Turned out he saved mine. 💔

The story of Reddit user 0nnaroll: her daughter and son-in-law raised a Shiba named Koda for a year. When her daughter got pregnant, they worried the dog would be "too much" around the baby, so they asked if she could take him. She said yes without hesitation. From then on, it was just her, Koda, and a cat.

She is 42. Her whole life, people told her she was "too much." Too much talking, too much energy, taking up too much space.

It sounds silly, but she related to the Shiba. "For all the situations we have to tone down, we are never 'too much' with each other. He could never be too much for me, and I'm never too much for him."

She made sure Koda would never be rejected for his personality again. Recently she lost everything, literally everything, but she still had her cat and the shoob. In that dark, dark time, he was the only thing that got her out of bed, forced her to touch grass and be present. "He makes sure I am loved."

Plot twist: this "too much" pup turned out to be the gentlest soul with the baby. She only ever laughs at him. ❤️

Have you ever met a soul who never thought you were "too much"? 🫶

She was in my arms for only 7 days and 1 hour. And I regret nothing. 💔

In January, Reddit user there_is_no_why lost her soul-pup after many years together. She thought: never again.

Around March, she "accidentally" stumbled on a rescue page for senior dogs, and a little Chihuahua named Squeegee moved into her head and stayed there for months. A few weeks ago, she finally reached out to that rescue, and also asked another one about a pup named Shea, who popped up in a random Facebook suggestion.

Turns out: the two pups were the SAME dog. The photos looked completely different. Only a note on the medical report gave it away: Shea, formerly Squeegee.

"I knew it was a sign to go get her," she says.

So she drove 20 hours to get her, and 20 hours back home. It was a hospice adoption: she signed up knowing the time would be limited. Their days together were simple: cuddles, stroller walks, lots of treats, and warm naps on the balcony.

The little one had been in her mind for months. In her arms, she only got 7 days and 1 hour.

On Thursday, the seizures started. After hours at the emergency hospital, she made the most heartbreaking decision: to let that tired little body rest.

"My heart is broken, and I regret nothing. Because of her, my heart is bigger." 💔

What can 7 days change? For a senior rescue dog, it was the warmest ending of a lifetime.

Would you drive 40 hours for a little soul who only had days left? 🚗🐾

A month ago, she was hiding under a car, trembling, afraid to even look at a human.

I crouched down and pushed a can of food toward her. She sniffed it, then retreated. For seven straight days, I brought the same can, sat in the same spot, and didn't say a word.

On the eighth day, she finally ate. But she still wouldn't let me touch her.

On the twelfth day, she started circling around my feet.

On the eighteenth day, she let me pet her head for the first time.

On the twenty-fifth day, she jumped onto my couch like it had always been her home.

And now? She wakes me up at six every morning by stepping on my face, claims the entire pillow, and treats my scratching post like her throne.

I didn't save her. She chose me.

He adopted an old dog so it wouldn't die alone. "I'd rather carry the pain of losing it than let it suffer one more day." The dog's eyes lit up — it knew it was chosen. 🐾❤️
