That CAD software work and the brochure photo still feel surreal to look back on, blows my mind that the same photo from the Caravan brochure was blown up on the wall at Control Data’s 1982 World’s Fair booth. Pre-PC industrial CAD days. Different tech era, same American drive for innovation.

Just after U.S. Bicentential, early 1980s I was part of CAD software development at Chrysler. This photo (of me, from the original Caravan sales brochure) shows a Tektronix storage-tube workstations with a minivan body wireframe on screen. The same image was projected wall-size at the Control Data Corporation booth at the 1982 Knoxville World’s Fair to showcase industrial CAD capabilities. @elonmusk was a 10–12-year-old schoolboy in South Africa. Different ends of the technology spectrum then and now
