I first called the Kestrel transaction almost two years ago. If Yancoal had made the move back in 2024, the price of met coal would have been around 10% less than it is today. I still like the transaction though.

The Kestrel Mine is an interesting backup if Yancoal does not prevail in its Anglo met coal bid. It would be nice if Kestrel had an approved mine life longer than 2033, but the company has enough reserves to last until at least 2046.
