An Indian court sentences Kashmiri resistance leader Asiya Andrabi to life imprisonment, and two of her associates, Sofi Fehmeeda and Nahida Nasreen, to 30 years in prison under "infamous" UAPA law

Today, mother, 64, was sentenced to three terms of life imprisonment by an Indian court for her participation in Kashmiri liberation struggle. Father, is already serving a life sentence since 1993, for the same reason. Two among many lifetimes that the occupation has stolen.
When a father self-immolates because he believes his son will vanish into the prison abyss, it’s not “law and order.”
It’s a society in freefall — and India is pretending not to see it.
In Kashmir, the Hindutva state believes in blood guilt, collective punishment, and punishment before legal process. Kashmiris have no basic rights or equality before law. Fear and spectacular displays of violence are the only relation between the state and its occupied subjects.
Indian bureaucrats, it seems, have decided to steal hundreds of acres of more Kashmiri land in an eco-fragile zone. Tens of thousands of trees are being felled. Kashmir is being swallowed whole into the imperial belly.

Around 12 lakh refugees from Jammu and Kashmir live in mainland Pakistan. Out of them nearly 11 lakh hailed from erstwhile Jammu and Kathua districts (driven out during the 1947-48 violence that saw large-scale massacre and mass exodus of Muslims from Jammu).
In order to facilitate the return of the Jammu and Kashmir refugees living in Pakistan, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah had brought Resettlement Bill also known as Bill No 9 in 1977. It was aimed at opening the doors for those state subjects who had migrated till 1954. The bill is still undecided in Supreme Court.

"If Srinagar has become less green and sadder over the years, I say some of the melancholy may also have to do with our war against trees and flowers."
My personal essay on trees, loss, and exile.

9th August 1953 PM Abdullah sacked, detained for 11 years. "Reward" from Nehru for his role in annexation of Kashmir with India . Used to be Black Day for them upto 1975. Once in power NC erased it from its memory only to end up with the position of a stateless/powerless CM
"The explosion not only destroyed Bano’s house but also damaged neighbouring homes as well. Four houses, including Bano’s, suffered severe damage: windows shattered, walls cracked.
Now homeless, Bano is staying with a neighbour who offers her food... "

To all Jumma molvis of Kashmir
خون دلوں کا خاک میں رائیگاں نہیں
فریاد شہیدوں کی کبھی بے جاں نہیں
ہم صبر کے دریا میں بھی آگ بنے
ظلمت کی ہر اک رات، بے اماں نہیں
Indian police have detained 2,000 Kashmiris, including children, demolished homes belonging to families of alleged suspects. Govt/media are calling for an Israel like solution in Kashmir & Pakistan, and here’s Ro Khanna calling on the US to offer intel/military help to Delhi.
We saw the dungeons and slaughterhouses like Sednaya and Tadmor being broken apart. We saw the Palestinian prisoners being freed in their hundreds, and the beautiful people of Gaza return to and rebuild their homes.
We'll see this in Kashmir, too. Ramadān Mubārak.
They smelled of liquor. They tore the women’s pherans (long traditional gowns). They pulled down their trousers and raped them. While raping them they continued to consume liquor. They took turns & sometimes took two rounds of a particular
