Today Merlin Santana would have turned 50 years old. Instead, his life ended at 26 because a woman lied on him. In 2002, Monique King, who was 15 years old at the time, falsely told her boyfriend that Merlin Santana had tried to r*pe her. Her boyfriend Brandon Bynes found him sitting in a car in Los Angeles and shot and killed him. After the murder, King admitted the story was fabricated. Brandon Bynes received 40 years to life for second-degree murder. Monique King was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and perjury and served only eight years in prison. She was released around 2012-2013. False accusations are not jokes, revenge, or entertainment. They can cost someone their reputation, their freedom, or their life.
