Congratulations, @BarbraBanda11!
The Orlando Pride and Zambia striker has won the public vote and been named BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2024.

Another good example of @BBCSport deliberately misleading its audience. Use of she/her. Zero mention of failing sex test nor DSDs. Anyone reading this would believe Banda is female. Voters were readers of BBC website who’ve been misled about Banda’s sex.

African’s political systems are driven by two groups, those that want to hold power and those that want to get into power. Historically both are ethnic entrepreneurs, they prey on ethic alliances to fulfil their agendas.
That’s been the discourse since independence, nothing to do with the economy, energy crisis, owning Africa’s mineral resources, sorting out food crisis, unemployment, SMEs or other important things.
Just look at Zambia’s circus in the last few weeks as an example.
While we are at it. These statistics are not getting any better.
‘In 2022, Zambia’s total poverty increased to 60% with 48% of the population classified as extremely poor, this was an increase from 54.4% and 40.8% in 2015 respectively.’ - ZamStats
In turn reports like this one below are becoming rampant:
‘I want to give a warning to everyone especially those who reside in twin palm ibex and Avondale there is a group of bandits that are attacking or tempting to attack vehicles at night.’
Just recently there was this report which came out:
‘A group of teenagers (junkies) this morning around 10 hours marched along Lilanda road from Lilanda station going towards down Kawama station stoning and breaking shops mainly for Rwandees and some Zambian shops as well as tutembas and Airtel money booths. Cars were stoned too. Some people have have been beaten and some robbed.’
Before we know it the reasonable voices are not loud enough to counter the power hungry politicians, elections are here and the citizens have to pick the better of two evils. And the circus continues.
And when you look at things realistically and honestly, everything is getting worse, poverty, energy crisis, food crisis, cost of living, unemployment, crime, weakening currency and an economy increasingly dominated by foreigners. The political systems will always have a reason why this is so and it's not their fault.
Just like Zamstats indicates ‘Poverty has been a rural phenomenon but now it’s affecting the urban population more’.
All I want to say is that the challenges of poverty and underdevelopment do not exempt the poor or the rich i.e. energy crisis . Its getting closer to home if we don’t change course. No one will be safe.
With growing population the crisis is deepening at a faster pace.
@EdgarMwango@DiggersOfNews The EU was around in that "collapsed" economy, they were collaborating with the government even attaching paid capacity to certain projects. Did they contribute to the failure too? Accountability is a tough one.
@FMwenge@Daddy_chololo What's unfair is applying a flawed global economic system tilted to those already with resources to context that doesn't even have safety nets for its people or local initiatives. Some countries decline to have foreign brands come in if they're offering the same service as locals
@FMwenge@Daddy_chololo When they're let in, they're required to compete fairly & not disenfranchise local businesses. My questions are: what exactly does the Min. of SMEs do? Have they released a Strat. Plan or annual performance reports? Why're they OK with letting an established local start-up fold?
There’s no African leader that stood up against colonialism that wasn’t killed or overthrown. The African leaders we have today are extensions of colonialism- colonization never ended.
If Africa takes control of its minerals, it means no electricity for France, no uranium for America, no crude oil and rubber for Europe—if Arica takes control of its resources, western civilization will crumble.
