Attended my first confirmation mass as a teacher and witnessed some of my students confirmed in Christ. Congratulations on your confirmation!

Today is the start of #TamilGenocideEducationWeek.
We remember the lives lost and invite our school communities to reflect, learn, & stand for peace and justice around the world.
This week, May 12th – 18th, is Tamil Genocide Education Week. Four years ago, the Tamil Genocide Education Week Act became a law in Ontario. Throughout this week, the Tamil community and youth will share stories from survivors of the Tamil genocide and learn about the intergenerational trauma that Tamil people continue to endure.
Genocide is not marked by one event; it is a process – a pattern of consistent and perpetual actions by the state to eliminate and erase a group of people. May 2009 is marked as the height of the Tamil genocide. We are left with vivid reminders of cluster bombings, abductions, rape, murders, and denials of food and medicine to Tamils in Mullivaikkal. Acts of genocide against the Tamil people continue even to this day, with 169,796 people still unaccounted for.
By recognizing Tamil Genocide Education Week, it is an opportunity to reflect on and educate the public about the enduring lessons of the ongoing Tamil genocide.

I was honoured to attend the 2025 Tamil Canadian Heritage Month Secondary Symposium - R.O.O.T.S. at St. John Paul II Catholic Secondary School & learn about the amazing culture of Tamil Canadian students and staff at #TCDSB.
Kudos for organizing such a great event!
Our grade 5/6 class made a trip to the library and had the opportunity to learn and tour the library, register for a card, borrow books and play with snap circuits! @tcdsb_stalbert@TCDSB#torontopubliclibrary#tpl
Thank you for inviting me to Tamil Genocide Education Week Roundtable. It was truly an honour to meet and talk with MPP @TheThanigasalam and Minister of Education @Sflecce! We appreciate you taking the time to hear our concerns/thoughts. Thank you 🙏🏽
Due to this anti-Tamil violence and systematic discrimination, many Tamils fled Sri Lanka since the 1980s & sought refuge in other countries, resulting in a significant efflux of the Tamil population in Sri Lanka & formation of the Tamil diaspora internationally.
#TamilGenocide
In addition to the genocide of Tamils, the Sri Lankan government has systematically discriminated against & disadvantaged Tamils through prejudiced legislation (see attached photos for examples), the effects of which are still palpable by Tamils even to this day.

As a Sinhalese person married into a Tamil family it’s my responsibility to acknowledge the #TamilGenocide & learn about its history. I’m a day late to post as I spent all May 18th reading about attacks by SLA against Tamil civilians & making this non-exhaustive timeline of them.
Today, May 18th we mark Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day. We honour the memory of our loved ones, the innocent lives lost and bear witness to their stories and resilience.
Since its independence, the state of Sri Lanka has been on a path towards genocide. The Sri Lankan state began systematically disenfranchising the Tamil population - initiating a series of events that would ultimately lead to the genocide of the Tamil people.
May 2009 is marked as the height of the Tamil genocide. The Sri Lankan state engaged in a heighted program of genocide with cluster bombings, abductions, rape, murders, and denial of food and medicine to Tamils in Mullivaikkal.
While we cannot bring back the lives lost, together, we can reaffirm our commitment to educate the next generation about the suffering, and bring justice and freedom to Tamil people.
It was important to give voice to the survivors of #Mullivaikkal on Weekend @bbcworldservice this morning. Here is the full poem featured on the programme.
As a young boy who survived the Tamil Genocide, I am honoured to stand in the Ontario Legislature, acknowledging the passage of Bill 104 - Tamil Genocide Education Week Act which is a law in Ontario.
During Tamil Genocide Education Week, May 12th - 18th, we unite to educate, remember, and prevent such horrors from repeating again.
Tamil people worldwide honour the memory of those we lost in #Mullivaikkal and throughout history.
We bear witness to the Tamil genocide that, tragically, persists to this day.
