Today, I formally requested an independent forensic audit of the 2026 NBA National Officers' Election and urged the relevant institutions to address the serious constitutional, procedural and technological concerns raised in my petition.

This is bigger than any individual or election. It is about protecting the credibility of our Association and strengthening confidence in our democratic processes.

I encourage colleagues to read the report and engage with its contents objectively.

The integrity of the Bar must always come first.

Distinguished Learned Colleagues,

First and foremost, I return all glory, honour and thanksgiving to Almighty God, whose wisdom is perfect and whose purposes transcend the understanding of men.

To every lawyer across Nigeria who believed in this movement, who prayed, who encouraged us, who travelled with us, who volunteered, who sacrificed time and resources, and who stood firmly with us throughout this journey, I offer my deepest gratitude.

This campaign was never built merely to win an election. It was built to inspire confidence that our Bar can become stronger, more inclusive, more courageous, and more responsive to the needs of every legal practitioner.

Over the past months, I had the privilege of visiting branches across our nation, listening to colleagues, sharing ideas, learning from your experiences, and witnessing firsthand the remarkable resilience, brilliance, and commitment that define the Nigerian lawyer.

Those encounters have become one of the greatest rewards of this journey.

I am particularly grateful to the thousands of colleagues who persevered through enormous challenges in their determination to participate in the electoral process. Many endured repeated technical difficulties, spent countless hours attempting to exercise their right to vote, and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the democratic ideals of our Association.

Your resilience speaks volumes about your love for the Nigerian Bar Association.

While the outcome of the election is now before us, the ideals that brought us together remain larger than any single electoral contest.

Our profession still deserves an Association that places the welfare of lawyers at its centre, protects the independence of the Bar without compromise, promotes excellence, expands opportunities for young practitioners, strengthens our branches, and remains a fearless voice for justice and the rule of law.

Those convictions have not changed.

Public service has never been defined, for me, by holding office alone. It has always been defined by service itself. Long before this election, I served our profession with dedication. I shall continue to do so with the same passion, the same integrity, and the same unwavering commitment.

The relationships forged during this campaign will endure long after this election. They are a constant reminder that the Nigerian Bar is filled with exceptional men and women who genuinely desire progress for our profession.

To every supporter, every coordinator, every volunteer, every member of our media and communications teams, every branch leader, every professional group, every friend and every well-wisher, thank you for giving your very best. Your dedication, loyalty, and sacrifices will never be forgotten.

I owe a special debt of gratitude to our Director-General, the Deputy Directors General, members of the Campaign Council, our State and Branch Coordinators, Committee Heads, media strategists, researchers, call centre volunteers, designers, content creators, photographers, videographers, mobilization team, and the countless individuals who worked quietly behind the scenes. Your commitment transformed a vision into a truly national movement.

To my family, whose patience, understanding, prayers, and sacrifices sustained me throughout this demanding journey, words cannot adequately express my appreciation. You carried this burden with me every step of the way.

The NBA Witnessed Its Lowest Point With Afam Osigwe as President - Olumuyiwa

He is the sole cause of the problems we are having in the NBA. He started with the unconstitutional appointment of the electoral committee, and he campaigned for a candidate while intimidating people to support his candidate.

If this victory truly reflected the will of the people, the Bar would be alive with joy, celebration, and pride.

But listen closely; there is no jubilation. No excitement. No sense of triumph. Just a heavy silence… disappointment… and a sadness that words can hardly carry.

Beyond all these, @MuyiwaAkinboro shared with the Bar a compelling picture of what he intended to do. I remember when he was asked how he would have delivered a better 2024 AGC despite the harsh economic realities that @MrsBBold had to contend with. His response was simple but telling: he would give the Bar a preview through the 2025 AGC.

And even in his private capacity, that preview proved to be nothing short of remarkable. That was the kind of vision he carried. A direction many genuinely believed would usher the NBA into an unprecedented phase. Truth be told, a significant part of the “good news” the profession once enjoyed bore his fingerprints. He saw what the Bar was becoming, and he came prepared to build something meaningful for lawyers.

But what can he do when, for some, it is a do-or-die affair?

Earlier today, when asked if he would challenge this outcome, he made it clear that he will consult, and within 24 hours, the Bar will hear from him.

It may well be the beginning of something else. @afamosigwe @MrsBBold Do not rejoice yet. Maybe Season 2 is about to begin.

OUTCOME OVER INTEGRITY: The Nigerian Way.

Nigeria is perhaps the only country where the integrity of the process is treated as an inconvenience once a winner has been announced.

The formula is simple: let the system stumble, let technology fail, let transparency become optional, let legitimate questions pile up. Once a "winner" emerges, the chorus begins:

"Congratulations, learned silk!"
"Congratulations to the First Female President of the NBA"
"Move on."
"It is over."

Never mind how we got there.

The recent Nigerian Bar Association process is yet another reminder that, to many Nigerians, victory sanitizes every defect. We do not demand credible processes. We celebrate outcomes. We crown winners first and interrogate the process never.

A flawed process does not magically become credible because congratulations have started pouring in. Legitimacy is earned by integrity, not by applause.

When we normalize defective processes because our preferred candidate emerges victorious, we lose the moral authority to complain when the same defective process produces a winner we do not like.

The tragedy is not merely that our systems fail. It is that we have become so accustomed to failure that we now congratulate it.

Until process matters more than personalities, competence more than convenience, and integrity more than victory, we will continue to recycle the same national dysfunction while pretending each new winner is evidence of progress.

A victory secured through a process under serious question is not a triumph. It is simply another chapter in our collective addiction to outcomes over principles.

I have lost faith in the Nigerian Bar Association as professional association of lawyers. Credibility, objectivity, honesty and integrity have all departed from the NBA, affairs of NBA and the politics in NBA, unfortunately. NBA is now populated with lawyers, except few, who engaged in mob actions and talks, and lawyers who do not see anything wrong with the glaring wrongs, which wrongs even the blind can see.

The most annoying thing to me is the hypocrisy of some of the most vocal legal practitioners who see wrongs and complained of wrong doing on daily basis against decisions and actions of government institutions, which decisions and actions are always taken and or done in breaches of due processes, including decisions of INEC, but did not see anything wrong with the processes of the just concluded NBA coronation. Nigerian lawyers should just keep quiet when due processes are violated in the society because the affairs of NBA are not transparent.

These sets of lawyers did not see the incompetence and the illegality in the composition of ECNBA and even the lack of independence of the so- called ECNBA.These lawyers could not see that the ECNBA was teleguided to produce a pre-determined outcome. It is sad that NBA has lost everything noble. Lawyers who did not vote are far more than the lawyers that were alleged to have voted. The processes agreed to be used were jetisoned for processes to produce who the cabals want. The legal profession is going to be the worse for this. Shame on those who see nothing wrong with the wrongs that were done in all the processes that culminated in the coronation just concluded.

For me I have also lost faith in the honesty and integrity of those who were very critical and threatened fire and brimstone over the glitch in the INEC viewing portal then. These same sets of lawyers are now excusing the glitch in the NBA portal that clearly showed incompetence and or a pre- determined system to favour their coronated president.

These NBA elections opened my eyes to apprecaite how hollow and shallow most of the people who pontificate and called politicians names are. Any credible election is determined by the credibilityof the processes leading to election. In this year NBA election every stage of the processes leading to the sham coronation was staged managed and biased to produce the sham outcome in the just coronation by the kingmakers at NBA house. So sad.

Throughout this campaign, I consistently maintained that the future of our Association depends on the strength, credibility, and integrity of its electoral process.

Those convictions were not born of convenience; they were rooted in a genuine desire to see the Nigerian Bar Association become stronger, more transparent, and more accountable to its members.

The events surrounding this election have reinforced the urgent need for meaningful electoral reform. My reflections are offered in the hope that this moment will inspire the changes necessary to restore confidence in our democratic processes.

I remain profoundly grateful to every colleague who stood with me, believed in our shared vision, and lent their voice to the cause of a better Bar.
