An English teacher in Leicester, far too excited by all things educational, literary or mildly entertaining. I also teach transfiguration on Saturdays.
@TeacherTapp your email question today was tricky to answer - do you mean the day so far or the last 24 hour period? I answered according to the former, but my inbox is continuing to grow, which would now make my answer inaccurate! Ultimately my answer is TOO MANY!
@GuardianEdu do you know about this? It is a scandal: schools still facing normal charges for exams that they have set, marked and moderated themselves. No one seems to be talking about it - probs because teachers involved are too exhausted to tweet https://t.co/ytVLPlFm6r
I’ve just signed @theRCN’s #FairPayForNursing petition, telling the Prime Minister why we demand Fair Pay For Nursing. It only takes a minute – please show your support for nursing staff by signing too. https://t.co/WDjU2xoY2d
@BBCNewsbeat Hey Newsbeat, any chance you could interview a teacher about exams who can put some of the fears at rest that have been outlined by the students you spoke to today? Please don’t spread fear!
Here’s an idea. Get Heads, MAT leaders, union and policy folk to form a national crisis council for education to make all the calls from now on. Bypass the DFE and the Idiot altogether. We’d be safer; kids will learn more. @ASCL_UK@CharteredColl - you know it makes sense.
@HinesJasara Hi! Great Pair Deck session! Do you have any tips for behaviour management while using breakout rooms? I'm wondering how to ensure students stay on task...
@teacherhead Surely this is applicable outside of Covid times too? The fact that we are professionals is all too often ignored by keyboard warriors (and the press)...
Hey @JonAshworth have you seen this and the detrimental impact that government ignorance is having on this sector? https://t.co/JSEyRZIT6x My sister just graduated in theatre management and her future looks pretty bleak...
Would be good if people could get behind this: Stop the 33% downgrade of 2020 A level and GCSE results - Sign the Petition! https://t.co/JDcPbw6Y3e via @UKChange
What if the teachers are right and the exams are wrong?
An exam is just a single test taken on a single day covering a random selection of parts of the syllabus.
Whereas the teacher has a holistic view of the student measured over time.
Personally I trust the teachers.
@veggiehenson@DavidGodwin79@teacherhead@GavinWilliamson UCAS estimates are totally different to the grades submitted by teachers in May, because those predictions are usually made in October with a million different variables in play. CAGS were based on mocks, coursework and months of teacher assessed study.
No no no. Mocks?!! FFS. @GavinWilliamson - if you’re going to bottle it, just give the CAGs. Everyone has them, they were determined with a level of rigour.... Mocks aren’t proper controlled exams in many situations.... not fully graded. It’s just a terrible idea. Take advice!
If you saw a venue you care about #LightItInRed last night, you need to watch this #WeMakeEvents vid- the events industry needs your support https://t.co/KPFylVEFzT
This evening we stand in solidarity with our friends and venues to highlight the impact of the Covid-19 crisis on the entertainment & arts industries.
