6/3/1770 -- El Presidio Real de San Carlos de Monterey was founded. It would eventually be responsible for the defense of the missions @ San Luis Obispo, San Miguel, San Antonio, Soledad, San Carlos Borroméo, & San Juan Bautista.
There are schools in Spain, Mexico, and the U.S. named after St. Junipero Serra. Now there is one in the Philippines! #GoGoStJunipero

5/21/1773 - St. Junípero Serra to Bucareli: “. . . with a moderate amount of food, & if the bad example & annoyances caused by the soldiers do not corrupt them [Indians] , we may hope within a short time to see a multitude of Christians.”

5/14/1769 - St. Junípero Serra founded his 2nd mission, Mission San Fernando de Velicatá (about 35 miles southeast of El Rosario, Baja California, Mexico). Eventually the Dominicans took charge. Today it lay in ruins. #GoGoStJunipero
