Currently, I am a bit hesitant. I feel as if some students would not be interested in these activities and would not participate. Also in Highschool I know that this type of activity would make me very nervous in class.

I think reading this play on class was effective. Not only did we experience the play as a play, but everyone got involved and ultimately liked it more than if we had just read it on our own.

In my freshman English class we did the typical theater activity with Shakespeare. Each role in Romeo and Juliet was assigned to a different student and we performed it in class.

This experience taught me to look closer at the assignment and instructions, figure out what exactly the professor wants from a task, and for my own teaching it taught me that if I want something specific out of an assignment I need to say it clearly. (2/2)

In a new Philosophy course I did poorly on the first exam of the semester. I hadn't taken enough time to explain my ideas and it just didn't meet the professor's expectations. I went to meet with him about improvements and did better on the next one. (1/2)

As far as assessments go, I always enjoyed a writing assessment over a test. I felt I could express what I learned as well as what about what I learned was most valuable to me.

The groups would consists of students with different skills that could all participate and contribute. We know that not all students are the best at everything, and by highlighting their skills and not their weaknesses they become stronger students. (2/3) #491FlynnF20

An activity that would incorporate differentiated learning would be using a peer reading like PALS, and working with students with different skills to create a project. This would be a place for assigned groups. (1/3) #491FlynnF20

As educators we need to keep a growth mindset, and show this to our students so they believe they can learn. By separating them we are telling them they can't learn like their peers. That needs to change.

Separating students that need aid might be easier on us, but students see the difference. By putting in the effort to made the whole classroom environment accessible to everyone, we are showing our students that we are there for then and that they CAN learn #491FlynnF20 (2/3)

By asking students questions and guiding them to the answer rather than simply telling them the answer we are not only teaching the material, but teaching students how to learn.

In the video, Murdoch labels the questions that these teachers ask as scaffolding, which is not a way I have seen it framed before. I like this view because it provides a concrete idea of how this questioning helps students. (1/2)

A classroom that is not inquiry based seems to be the norm, at least in my school history. There is a teacher and they hold the knowledge and share it with the class. This does not facilitate active learning or a motivation in the students to learn on their own.

Inquiry based instruction is a way to run a classroom focused on questions, curiosity, and discovery. It does not revolve around lecture, but around students being presented with questions and doing the work to answer them and learn.

One activity that could help engage students as well as help me get to know them is to have them bring a short passage or quote that is meaningful to them, their culture, or their background, and ask them to write why it is meaningful to them.
