Then he recited my words. It was so meaningful to him and me. I didn’t know that what I said could make such an impact. I seriously think that he built a foundation around that, and it even effected how he put himself out there as a physician. Our words are important.
I realized the power of this recently too. I had a psychiatry resident that rotated with me for his medicine month. I had given him a little nugget of praise bc he was awesome. I called him for a consult 4 years later and I said my name. He said, I know exactly who you are.
1/🧵 Surprised by my taxi driver!
Before #COVID19, when I used to travel, I would often ask my early morning taxi drivers if they wanted me to read the inspirational meditation I get from an assortment of sources out loud or silently. 90% of the time they want to hear it...#hope

Why does catamenial pneumothorax (pneumothorax that recurs with menstruation) almost always occur on the right side?
Why doesn't it affect both sides of the chest equally?

How did it take me this long to find the perfect analogy to explain the need for anticoagulation in Afib to my fellow Southerners?!
Me: “Blood is the consistency of gravy. If you stop stirring your roux evenly—“
Pt: “It clumps!”
Me: “Here’s your gravy thinner.”
@abebeabebe16 I am so thankful for colleagues like you Abebe!! You bring our division up so much and set an example for us all to follow. Thank you! Can we clone you a hundred times over?? Lol
It happened again. Talking to my patient when “x” consultant walks into room, no intro, just takes over the convo as if I’m not even there. Doesn’t even acknowledge me in the room. Doesn’t ask if ok to interrupt. Infuriating. And I am left flabbergasted most of the time.
It leaves me to wonder, are people transformed this way over time, or is there a selection bias for the God complex from the beginning - med school interviews? How do we fix the problem?? 🤔
I guess I am still just floored that my own colleagues are so far off from offering me the same respect. Or any of our other staff for that matter. Should we go back to teaching simple manners in med school?
