@jules0455 Masking tape over the hit you want to drill. Drilling into a piece of wood also helps stop it splaying. I buy my pre-drilled now, much easier!

@SarahsGarden12 Caerphilly here and same problems. Courgettes did nothing, lost all our leeks, only a couple of beets, but potatoes and broad beans ok. Groeing season is just got shorter and shorter, can see we will need a poly tunnel soon so we can get things in early enough.

@JMBecologist After having a very busy garden full of sparrows and starlings last year, there definitely seems be less this year. Our garden is wildlife friendly so I hope they have just found somewhere else. On a plus side, more butterflies this year.
