This is a photo from the early 2000s of the distant hills around Mt St Helens that were still in the impact zone and, therefore, devastated by the force and destruction of that eruption 20+ years before. They were not replanted like the closer in and lower forest areas were. To this day they still show the devastating impact of the blow out.
