@scottlincicome@JonahDispatch Indeed. I really think Jonah and David have been too kind to this tweet. Neuralink (Musk’s brain interface company) has rendered TSMC redundant is just silly, no? No one thinks we’re anywhere near losing Taiwan not being catastrophic.
✒️ Our latest substack — How to make Britain an AI haven is now live!
Our first guest post from @mjhsinclair of @ccianet explores regulations that are limiting AI firms setting up shop in the UK.

"But energy prices are set in world markets"...
This lazy argument against using the UK's own oil and gas reserves has been debunked many times, but here are some key points... 🧵
1️⃣ this claim might be true of oil, but not of natural gas (which is much cheaper in the US)...
Interesting new research from Public First on a social media ban - its apparent popularity collapses when alternatives are offered. https://t.co/54xPgJ8nQW
Horrifying Halloween haunt: UK regulator could ban teenagers engaging with videogame livestreams. @Ofcom is considering new safety measures that could restrict livestreaming interactions for under-18 year olds. 🎃👻 https://t.co/z7AZXpbPFN
.@Ofcom is exploring new restrictions on livestreaming, including limits on under-18s’ ability to interact. To inform the debate over this proposal, CCIA commissioned Public First to survey users of all ages on why they livestream and the social, educational, and economic benefits they gain. https://t.co/MkIEegC90g

In the first six months of 2025, only 2,158 private homes were started in London.
In Auckland -- a city that is 1/5 the size -- 7,036 homes were consented over the same period.
This is really important. CMA has basically declared war on Google, in exactly the way we warned might happen in our report ‘The Unregulated Regulator’ https://t.co/gFUQoIf1lN

🧵 The UK is planning to strengthen the copyright regime by exposing text-and-data mining to mandatory licensing.
This could be lose-lose: moderately slower AI adoption would cost between £1300-2300 per year from reduced productivity growth. Creators would in turn get pennies.

@SeanTrende It was a big thing in 90s video games: Tie Fighter; Dungeon Keeper; part of plenty of others. Not convinced it's new at all. Can be playful transgression, exploring setting, all sorts of other non-sinister motivations.
This is important research. Startup support has been both a shining success and a dismal failure historically. As TEN say 'not all created equal' and worth reflecting on what works best / how to do better.
🏎️🚨NEW!
Startup support programmes are booming. But how well are they performing?
For founders, navigating them can be difficult. Too often, it’s unclear which programmes are high-quality, how long they’ll last, or what outcomes they actually deliver.

Really interesting story but it doesn't cover an important angle. Was the Chair of @CommonsPAC told about this expenditure? That might sound odd but in the past often it has been the Chair of the PAC who would have been told about secret spending like this.
