August 29 is the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine who gave their lives for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

This day carries the memory of Ilovaisk in 2014, when Ukrainian defenders were killed while withdrawing through fields of sunflowers. The sunflower has since become a symbol of remembrance for those who never came home.

Today, we honour every defender who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Behind every name was a life.A family. A friend. A brother or sister. A son or daughter.A person who had dreams, plans, and people waiting for them.

They gave their lives so Ukraine could remain free.

We remember them.We honour them.We will never forget them.
