ICYMI: DCD Commissioner Lafayette Crump and Common Council President José Pérez joined the @Brewers and Luna Creative Collaboration last month to celebrate the unveiling of a new 55-foot-wide mural on the city’s South Side. The mural by Luna Creative Collaborations was unveiled outside Paleteria Yayo, 1727 W. Lincoln Ave., and was commissioned by the Brewers. Before painting began, local students provided input by drawing what their idea of “play” was in their neighborhood. According to OnMilwaukee, “The color palette of the piece is meant to tie the mural to the 2026 Milwaukee Brewers City Connect jerseys."
Commissioner Crump shared at the unveiling, “Supporting a city also means supporting its artists, its small businesses, and its neighborhoods. Partnerships like this matter. When organizations like the Brewers work alongside local artists and the community, we create something lasting and something people can see themselves in.” Paleteria Yayo started in 2018 and has more than 30 employees. They create and sell up to 6,000 paletas a day in the peak season. The owners, Rene Adan and Galy Montes, are a husband and wife team who run their business like a family.
Luna Creative Collaborations is a formerly Latinx artist collective that has since evolved into a small business that supports all artists of color across disciplines and backgrounds. One of Luna’s core goals is to create solutions that diversify which artists receive opportunities in Milwaukee. Luna’s work overall is grounded in collaboration, community engagement, and creating pathways for artists.
The City of Milwaukee Department of City Development joined @MayorMKE Cavalier Johnson, @AlderwomanPratt , and Maxon Industries to announce the company's purchase of 1.6 acres of City-owned land at 6600 N. Teutonia Ave., adjacent to its headquarters at 3204 W. Mill Road.
Founded in Milwaukee in 1972, Maxon Industries manufactures heavy construction equipment used in major infrastructure projects across the country and world. The company’s planned multi-phase expansion will add significant manufacturing and operational space to its existing facility. The project is expected to bring approximately $2.8 million in new investment and create new jobs in Milwaukee.
This expansion reflects the @cityofmilwaukee's continued commitment to supporting local manufacturing, creating family-supporting jobs, and returning City-owned properties to productive economic use.
