Tennessee’s new “House rules” for the special session clarify that small paper signs are no longer allowed in committee rooms, but guns are.
This is INSANE!
“Words have always been the basis of the relationship between doctors and patients. If our language is failing us, it’s because our training has.”
Stunning essay by @SunitaPuriMD in @NewYorker. #MedEd must focus more on communication. https://t.co/jLtTdiVwyG
“As clinicians, we can separate our clinical assessment (needing intubation) from the deliberation about whether intubation should be done. We assume that patients and families follow our logic and recognize these distinctions.” — excellent read on communication!
"When clinicians, from a position of authority, describe patients with respiratory failure as needing intubation, patients and families presume intubation is what should be done."

Celebrating our @VUMCPICU fellowship graduates. Chiara, Andy, and @ML_Shea we are so proud of the amazing PICU doctors you are and the children of Dallas, Vegas, and Chapel Hill are fortunate to have you 😁
I'm a pediatrician so there's some basic stuff I know.
What's NOT bad for kids?
Rainbow clothes
Spacious swimsuit bottoms
Stories & poems
Learning the history of your country
Gender affirming healthcare
What IS bad for kids?
School shootings
Teaching them to hate
Easy peasy!
There is something REALLY wrong with a hospital system expecting its doctors and nurses to care for children with bullet holes in them but not allowing those same people to advocate for gun violence prevention.
Your politics are showing.
Do better.
What I want for #MothersDay:
•to send my children to school without the haunting fear of violence
• for my daughter to grow up with bodily autonomy
• a parental leave system that reflects the vital role of parenthood
• a sustainable, functional healthcare system
The time honored tradition of faculty cooking breakfast for all of our wonderful @VUMCPICU nurses. We are so appreciative of the compassionate care you provide our patients and their families. We have the best team!! #thankyounurses
This month in the US, people were shot for ringing the wrong doorbell, getting into the wrong car, using a leaf blower, delivering food to the wrong address, driving into the wrong driveway, and for asking a neighbor to stop shooting so a baby could sleep.
It’s the fucking guns.
