We conducted an unannounced visit to Amos Maphanga Secondary School in Etwatwa ahead of the second engagement under the ‘It Takes A Village To Raise A Child’ Thuto-Pele – Education First Community Outreach Programme.

During the visit, we assessed infrastructure conditions and engaged with the school principal and management on matters affecting the school, including challenges impacting teaching and learning, as part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the education ecosystem in Gauteng.

The National Executive Committee of the African National Congress, in the meeting that has just risen, did not consider and was not asked to consider; the recall of the President of the African National Congress. Resignation was not on the table.

The National Executive Committee reaffirmed, in clear and unambiguous terms, its full and continuing support for the President of the African National Congress, Comrade Cyril Ramaphosa, as the leader of this movement and, in that capacity, as the leader of the Government of National Unity.

Twist our words. Misrepresent our position. Call us whatever names you want. Accuse us of things we have never said. It changes nothing.

We will never under any circumstances stand with a xenophobic agenda that turns the poor against the poor while the real architects of poverty, unemployment, inequality and criminality walk free.

We know what it means when mobs take the law into their own hands. We have seen it before - the humiliation, the terror, the burning of homes, the destruction of lives in broad daylight while the rule of law collapses. That is not justice. That is a descent into barbarism.

We refuse to celebrate that. We refuse to be silent about it. We refuse to normalise it.

Our country was not built on hatred. It was built on struggle, on solidarity, on the belief that an injury to one is an injury to all. When we allow violence against the most vulnerable, we are tearing apart the very fabric of our democracy.

We will not be part of turning South Africa into a skunk of the world again, a place feared by the world and unsafe for its own people.
