Austria are furious over several decisions during the match, and already believed the officials heavily favoured Argentina.

Their first complaint came with a penalty that was awarded for an alleged foul on Lisandro Martinez. However, after a VAR review, which clearly showed the Austrian defender win the ball, a penalty was still awarded regardless.

After Lionel Messi's penalty miss, he went on to give Argentina the lead. However, there was a clear foul in the build-up, with Alexis Mac Allister swiping away the legs of the Austria player. This was overlooked again by the referee and the VAR team in favour of awarding Messi the goal, which left questions over the favourable decisions he's received so far this World Cup, including not being sent off versus Algeria, and now a goal and a penalty awarded in his favour.
