#Profile:From selling banana leaves and engaging in petty trade to finance his education, Hon. David Bahati has risen to become one of Uganda’s most prominent economic policymakers and public servants.
Born on 8 June 1973 in Ndorwa, Kabale District, Bahati is the Member of Parliament for Ndorwa County West and serves as the NRM Chairperson for Kabale District. A seasoned accountant and politician, he is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Makerere University, an MBA from Cardiff University, executive certificates from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the Leadership Institute, as well as a Diploma in Business English from Manchester Business School.
Before entering elective politics, Bahati served as Head of Finance and Administration at Uganda’s Population Secretariat. He later became Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development (Planning), where he played a key role in national planning and economic policy. In the 2026 Cabinet, he was appointed Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (Industry).
Beyond government, Bahati chairs the Uganda National Prayer Breakfast Fellowship and the Scout Board of Uganda. Widely regarded for his technocratic leadership style, he continues to advocate for industrialisation, investment and economic transformation as drivers of Uganda’s development.
#Profile :Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba emerged as one of Uganda’s most prominent opposition leaders when he served as Leader of the Opposition in Parliament from 2021 to 2024, becoming a key voice in holding government accountable and shaping national political debate.
Born on 12 October 1975 in Lwengo District, Mpuuga is a politician, lawyer and educator. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from Makerere University, as well as a Bachelor of Laws from the Law Development Centre.
Mpuuga entered Parliament in 2011 as Member of Parliament for Masaka Municipality, later representing Nyendo-Mukungwe Division, a position he held until the 2026 general elections. He rose through the ranks of opposition politics, serving as Deputy President of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and previously holding several shadow cabinet positions, including portfolios for education and the presidency.
His tenure as Leader of the Opposition was marked by vigorous parliamentary oversight and advocacy for development in Buganda and the greater Masaka region. However, it also ended amid controversy surrounding a parliamentary service award, which strained his relationship with NUP leadership. Ahead of the 2026 elections, he founded the Democratic Front (DF).
Known for his articulate communication style and grassroots mobilization, Mpuuga remains an influential figure in Uganda’s opposition politics despite his recent electoral setback.
#Profile :Hon. Hajjat Minsa Kabanda cemented her place in Kampala politics when she won the Kampala Central parliamentary seat in the 2026 general elections, defeating strong opposition contenders after years of grassroots political activism in the capital.
A member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Kabanda has served as Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs since June 2021. Her political journey began at the local level, where she represented Kisenyi as a councillor in Kampala Central Division. Although she lost her first parliamentary bid in 2016, she remained active in city politics, secured the NRM flag unopposed in 2025, and went on to win the Kampala Central seat in 2026.
As minister, Kabanda has championed urban governance reforms aimed at improving infrastructure, traffic management, road networks, vendor regulation and service delivery across the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area. She has also promoted youth skilling programmes, entrepreneurship initiatives and business hubs to address unemployment and support economic growth.
Known for her close engagement with communities, Kabanda continues to play a central role in efforts to modernise Kampala and strengthen metropolitan development under President Museveni’s administration.
#Profile: From military service and healthcare to national politics, Hon. Fred Byamukama has built a diverse career in public service. The Bugangaizi West MP currently serves as Minister of Works and Transport and is also Kakumiro NRM District Chairperson. Born in Kikwaya Village, he attended Kikwaya Primary School and Mandela Secondary School before training as a health professional. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Anaesthesia from Busitema University, alongside nursing qualifications from Mulago. A former UPDF Lieutenant, Byamukama is known for his interest in agriculture and commercial farming, which he promotes as a pathway to household income growth.
#profile:A physician, public health specialist and demographer, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has built a rare career that bridges medicine, academia and politics, culminating in his appointment as Uganda’s Minister of Health in 2026.
Born on December 9, 1969, in Murama Village, Nyakishenyi, now Kanungu District, to the late Aloysius Mpungirehe and Rosaria Kamayangi, Baryomunsi attended Kayungwe Primary School and St. Paul’s Seminary, Kabale.
He earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Makerere University in 1995, followed by postgraduate studies in demography, HIV/AIDS management and a PhD in Public Health.
He has represented Kinkizi East County in Parliament since 2006 and previously served as State Minister of Health, State Minister for Housing, and Minister for ICT and National Guidance.
Known for his expertise in HIV/AIDS, maternal health and population studies, Baryomunsi advocates for disease prevention, health sector reforms and community development initiatives.
#Profile : After succeeding her father, veteran politician Sam Kutesa, as Mawogola North MP in a fiercely contested political battle, Hon. Shartsi Musherure emerged as one of the most closely watched figures in Uganda’s ruling NRM party.
A lawyer by profession, Musherure was recently appointed Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development (Micro-Finance).
Born Shartsi Nayebare Kutesa, she is the daughter of former Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa and Jennifer Nankunda Kutesa, and the twin sister of Charlotte Kainerugaba, wife of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
She holds two law degrees, including a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Cornell Law School. In 2021, she won the Mawogola North parliamentary seat after defeating President Museveni’s brother, Godfrey Aine Kaguta (Sodo), in a highly contested NRM primary. After withdrawing from the 2025 NRM primaries in the interest of party unity, she was appointed to Cabinet in May 2026. She advocates for wealth creation, microfinance, women’s empowerment and rural economic development.
