@academic_exit And what qualities do these 50 examples have? What industry are they in? Did they have a strong network? How exactly did they get the job? What was the actual job? Industry is a very large umbrella term and can mean anything from R+D to sales. All this information is important.

@academic_exit I did one and I got a full-time job straight away with the same company. But this was done at the same time as thesis writing so can’t speak for those who started applying for jobs/internships post-PhD

@DerekKauneckis Sure, for problem solving some of it was learned on the job but also from failing experiments in PhD. Not only from what went wrong but how I handled it. Responding appropriately to a situation is essential to running a lab. Technical skills tie into this problem solving

Why I'm writing this tweet - those in their PhD struggling to publish what is required to get a postdoc. It's Ok because it doesn't really matter outside of academia. Focus on what you can control and build other skills.

There is a whole world of opportunity put there!

The more articles someone publishes in their program, the less time they will build skills in other areas to succeed in a non-academic position. Of course the practice of this does build relevant skills, but isn't a requirement in non-ac in my experience (6/n)
