Given the dire consequences that can result from a lack of trust and communication, resolving the airspace dispute between Somaliland and Somalia is an imperative matter. Potential safety risks have been introduced for aircraft operating in the region as a result of this conflict

Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) and on-board collision avoidance systems set boundaries for safe zones. Most modern large aircraft are fitted with a traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS) to prevent mid-air collisions, which is believed to have greatly reduced them.

Smaller planes and helicopters are more likely to experience in-flight collisions due to their lack of awareness and set schedules. Over 80% of mid-air collisions occur when one plane tries to overtake another, often during the final approach.
