This is a huge story in China right now given how big an outcry the installation of this caused back in 2017: Chinese tourism to South Korea was stopped, the Lotte Group was essentially shut down in China (nearly all of Lotte Mart's 112 Chinese stores were closed down due to "fire safety issues"), Hyundai and Kia had to close factories, k-pop disappeared from Chinese media, etc.
And now the US is just dismantling it to send it to the Middle-East...
So, quite literally, to have this, South Korea endured tens of billions in economic damage and did enormous harm to its relationship with its neighbor and largest trading partner... only for the US to take it back whenever it suited them.
The lesson writes itself.
🇺🇸🇪🇺PROF. JEFFREY SACHS ON UKRAINE NEGOTIATIONS:
“Trump doesn’t even recognise Europe, why should they be at the negotiating table? Europe should have been negotiating but it said ‘no, we will never negotiate’ until this moment.”
This will be terrible for the game as teams will defend completely differently than we see now. Lots of lows blocks & teams being negative. How would you defend a set piece!!
We don’t need more advantage for the attacker, the game is seeing more goals scored than ever!!!!
GDP from manufacturing or advanced intellectual property? Good GDP: it adds demonstrable value to China's economy. GDP from financial derivatives, speculation or real estate? Bad GDP: it extracts social value. Platform economy? Not too bad, but shouldn't abuse dominant position.
Wolf states "The force of 1.4bn people wanting a better life is extremely powerful." Xi's diagnosis of "better life" is, however, not only defined as stuff directly measurable in GDP. It includes better education and social services, more advanced cities and less pollution.
Wolf's article reflects an implicit, but important-to-understand assumptions on basic economic structuring. He asks whether Xi-ism is killing Deng-ism. Tritely, I'd say Xi-ism is supposed to kill Deng-ism. In Western political thought, we tend to think about social systems...
@SecondCaptains Have I got this right? The first segment is devoted to giving out about journalists & football analysts putting a price on Evan F, while talking about his price… and then during the second segment his price is brought up again during the discussion 🫤🫤
@SecondCaptains Is the wall to wall coverage of Women’s Irish soccer going 2 continue? Your moving further away from core football (historically PL & CL) audience. Alongside the tedious moral grandstanding over how PR teams operate - there has been relatively little content of note all summer
Assange & I were charged under a law designed to prevent fair trials—a law originally aimed at suppressing an old anti-war movement. Defendants are forbidden from mounting a public interest defense, juries prohibited from hearing it.
Whatever your politics, that's an injustice
