*Thirty four calamities the Prophet صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ would seek refuge from.*
The Messenger of Allāh صَلَّى ا للَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ said:
“O’ Allāh I seek refuge in You from 1.Helplessness [in performing good deeds],
2. Laziness, lethargy,
3. Cowardice,
4. Miserliness,
5. Senility,
6. Hard heartedness,
7. Heedlessness,
8. Deprivation,
9. Disgrace
10. Destitution.
[O’ Allāh] I seek refuge in You from
11. Poverty,
12. Disbelief,
13. Polytheism
14. Dissoluteness,
15. Dissension,
16. Hypocrisy,
17. Repute,
18. Ostentation
[O’ Allāh] I seek refuge in You from
19. Deafness,
20. Being mute,
21. Insanity,
22. Leprosy,
23. Vitiligo
24. From any severe ailments.
[O’ Allāh] I seek refuge in You
25. Burden of being heavily in debt,
26. From being overpowered by men.
[O’ Allāh] I seek refuge in You
27. Against the declining of Your Favours,
28. The passing of safety,
29. The suddenness of Your punishment
30. And all that which causes Your wrath.
[O’ Allāh] I seek refuge in You
31. From the anguish of severe calamities,
32 The lowest depths of misery,
33. The evil of what is [divinely] decreed and
34. The gloating of enemies.”
A man spends 50 years teaching at MIT.
He knows his time is running out.

• Pray Fajr on time.
• Eat honey and black seed.
• Observe more, speak less.
• Learn the about the life of the Prophets.
• Stop multitasking.
• Don’t expose your ‘awrah to strangers.
• Make sure you are asleep between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.
• Be more hungry than full.
• Read Qur'an with tafsir and contemplate.
• Keep your sins private and few.
• Don’t listen to music.
• Say bismillah before you learn anything.
• Sit with people smarter and more righteous than you.
• Teach what you learn.
• Use a miswak (gut-brain axis).
• Write, writing forces your thoughts to become clear.
• Take dhikr walks.
• Learn one new word in Arabic every day for a year.
• Memorize Qur'an
• Wake up before sunrise.
• Read books written by people who spent their entire lives on one subject.
• Read slowly.
• Study the names of Allah.
• Lower your gaze.
• Do istighfar.
• Drink Zamzam with the intention of a sharp mind.
• Never stop being a student of something.
