Ministry Releases Updated HIV/AIDS Stats
The Ministry has recorded 552 new cases of HIV from January to June 2024. The cases are from all divisions, with Central recording 380, Western 151, Northern 19, and Eastern 2 cases.

In response to this mpox global health emergency declaration by the WHO, the Ministry is convening the Communicable Disease Committee to review the global situation, review Fiji’s current prevention, preparedness and response measures.
The Family Health Unit (FHU) successfully concluded its National Planning Meeting from August 12th to 15th at Central Cuisine. The four-day event brought together MHMS HQ departmental heads, divisional and subdivisional medical and nursing leaders, and clinical heads.
FHU looks after key programs, including Early childhood development, Child health, Expanded Immunization Program, Maternal Health, Gender Based Violence, Sexual Reproductive Health, HIV/ AIDS, Cervical Cancer, and Family Planning.

Ministry Prepares for MPox
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has protocols and guidelines in place for mpox that were established at the time of the WHO declaration of the mpox global public health emergency in 2022.

Key objectives include ensuring optimal nutrition and health, fostering early learning and development, providing quality care, and creating safe, nurturing environments protected from all forms of violence, abuse, neglect, and conflict.
Following Cabinet approval, the Fiji National Early Childhood Development Policy will be implemented collaboratively by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection.
