لا أملك ما يكفي من كلمات للتعبير عما يجول في خاطري من مشاعر الأسى والقهر وأنا أشاهد آلة الحرب الإسرائيلية تهشم جماجم الأطفال في لبنان مع استمرارها في غزة، يعتريني اليأس من موقف دولي أو حتى عربي يوقف جماح هذا الجنون، هذا القصف المسعور والدمار والقتل والتشريد، ومئات الآلاف من النازحين. أشعر بالغضب والحزن في الوقت نفسه. فلا حياة لمن تنادي!!

I can find no words to express the feelings of sorrow and rage that run through my mind as I watch the Israeli war machine smash the skulls of Lebanese children while the war in Gaza rages on. I despair at the international community’s position including that of Arab states, which fails to bring an end to this madness. The frenzied bombings, destruction, killings and mass displacements of hundreds of thousands of people: what is there left to say?! And is there anybody listening?

مع أني لا أتحدث في العادة عن القضايا الداخلية في قطر، فإني سأتحدث اليوم عن إحدى المؤسسات القطرية العريقة، التي عاصرت بداية إنشائها قبل سنوات عديدة برؤية استشرافية مدروسة وواعدة، وهي مؤسسة قطر للتعليم.
وقد مرت هذه المؤسسة بمراحل عديدة، وكانت مسيرتها بمثابة معركة أكسبتها احترام وتقدير كثير من المؤسسات التعليمية العريقة في العالم. وقد كان الهدف من إنشاء مؤسسة قطر للتعليم واضحا وساميا منذ البداية، وهو الانتقال بالتعليم في قطر إلى مراتب التعليم العالمية المتطورة، بنقل التجربة الأميركية إلى منطقتنا بإنشاء حرم جامعي للكليات الأميركية في قطر.
وقد واجهت هذه الفكرة في البداية معارضة، وحوربت محليا وإقليميا، حتى بدا أن من المستحيل أن تتحقق. ولكن عندما أنشئت المؤسسة ونجحت وأقامت جوا أكاديميا صحيا، أصبحت ر��فدا مهما من روافد التعليم في قطر ورأى الناس في وجود كلياتها هنا ما يغنيهم عن إرسال أبنائهم وبناتهم للخارج، لاكت��اب العلم والحصول على الشهادات الأميركية نفسها.
كان هذا هو الهدف السامي من انشاء المؤسسة، ولكن تم، للأسف، استغلال بعض الشائعات المغرضة، التي نعرف مصدرها وأهدافها السيئة، عقابا لدولة قطر بسبب وقوفها مع الحق، ولأنها كانت وسيطا نزيها وليس بالنيابة عن أي طرف، لمساعدة شعب محاصر، ووقف حرب إبادة يتعرض لها بطريقة لم تكن مرضية لطرف من الأطراف. ونحن نعلم أن هناك "لوبي" ضغط يعمل في أميركا لخدمة جهة معروفة في مجالات عديدة.
ونحن على يقين أن مؤسسة قطر للتعليم، وقد استكمل بناؤها واستقرت أساساتها قوية الآن، سوف تتمكن وتنجح باقتدار في أداء رسالتها التعليمية السامية، ولكن ��ا يؤسف له هو هذا الخلط الفاسد بين رسالة التعليم والأغراض السياسية بأسلوب قصير النظر لا يخدم العلاقة بين الولايات الم��حدة والعالم العربي، بل يؤجج الخلافات التي كنا نأمل، وما زلنا، في أن يساعد التعليم والتطور في تجاوزها، وإزالة كل أسباب الخلاف والكراهية.
