Didier Drogba scored 16 goals in his debut season for Chelsea.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scored 26 goals in his debut season for Chelsea.
Diego Costa scored 21 goals in his debut season for Chelsea.
João Pedro has already scored 20 non-penalty goals in his debut season for Chelsea and he’s still counting.
For a player in his first season at the club, João Pedro’s numbers have been seriously impressive.
Chelsea may have finally found another top striker capable of delivering consistently at the highest level.
🚨 Pep Guardiola: “Well, 19 titles in 10 years is not bad… they don’t need to wait for when I’m leaving, they know it has been fun!”.
“It has been F*****G FUN! Fighting for the 20th title… not bad”.
Been thinking about the beneficiaries with Xabi Alonso came to Chelsea with a Back-3 or Back-4.
Geovany Quenda (19, 🇵🇹) the forgotten one could be, Alonso wants his wing-backs to have Winger-like profiles + he’s played this role with SCP.
And, he’s naturally a winger = Fits both.
To compare, Garnacho will be hoping Alonso plays like he did with Madrid. With Wingers & not wing-backs because WB role just doesn’t fit his characteristics.
The interesting thing when you discuss formation is that people who loved Maresca's work will tell you they don't want a back 3.
I ask, what did Maresca use at Chelsea?
Maresca's shape in possession was 3-2-4-1, out of possession 4-5-1.
Alonso's shape in possession at Leverkusen was 3-2-4-1, and out of possession 4-5-1. 😂
That's why formation on paper is BS.
‼️ Already in 2024 Chelsea were considering Xabi Alonso as an elite coach, an ideal candidate for their job.
Then in Alonso's mind at that point there were Leverkusen, and then Real Madrid as clear plan for his career, and that's why for Chelsea, it wasn't possible to go ahead.
So Xabi has always been one of the favorite candidates of this ownership.
