One year after his passing, Kenya continues to feel the weight of the loss of the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.
For all his shortcomings, as is true of any human being, Hon. Raila stands tall as one of the foremost sons of our nation; a patriot whose life was defined by courage and a determination to see Kenya lives up to its promise.
Even in the face of adversity, he stood firm in his convictions and challenged impunity in all its manifestations. Indeed, he valued Kenya above all else and always put it above self. His enduring belief in the hope of a better Kenya is admirable.
As we mark the first anniversary of his passing, we thank God for his life on earth and the gift of his grit to our nation. We continue to stand in solidarity with Mama Ida Odinga, Raila Jr., Rosemary, Winnie and the entire Odinga family.
Continue resting in peace, my friend, Raila Amolo Odinga. Your journey on earth may have ended, but your place in Kenya’s story remains.
I convey my heartfelt condolences to my elder sister, Hon. Martha Karua, and the entire Karua family following the passing of their beloved patriarch, Mzee Jackson Karua.
Although I did not have the privilege of knowing Mzee Karua personally, the value he espoused is evident in the children he raised. In Hon. Martha Karua and her siblings, one can attest to Mzee’s integrity, honesty and discipline.
Indeed, the loss of a parent leaves a silence that words can rarely fill. At this difficult moment, I assure Hon. Martha and the entire family of my solidarity and support. May the memories of Mzee Jackson Karua bring the family comfort, and may his soul rest in eternal peace.
Germany remains a crucial bilateral partner to Kenya, and we are grateful for its continued support towards our economic and social development.
I had the pleasure of meeting with the German Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Sebastian Groth, at his residence in Nairobi today. We are grateful for the warm reception.
We condemn the banditry attacks witnessed in Gotu, Isiolo County, earlier today, which resulted in the loss of five innocent lives and the theft of livestock.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and the people of Isiolo, who continue to bear the pain and consequences of insecurity. The loss of innocent lives under any circumstances is unacceptable. Every Kenyan has the right to live in safety and pursue their livelihoods without fear of attack.
The government must therefore take immediate and decisive action to restore security in Gotu and the surrounding areas and ensure that those responsible for these attacks are apprehended and held accountable under the law.
It is also critical that security agencies work closely with local leaders, community elders, religious leaders, and residents to restore calm, prevent retaliatory attacks, and address the underlying tensions that continue to threaten peace in the region.
We urge the Government to provide the necessary support to the affected families and ensure that the people of Gotu can return to their homes and economic activities without fear.
It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Dr. David Silverstein, the long serving personal physician to the late retired President H.E. Mzee Daniel arap Moi.
Dr. Silverstein left a lasting impression to those he treated and we witnessed firsthand his attention to detail and empathy. To him, Mzee Moi was not merely a client. He was a human being whose health, dignity and wellbeing mattered deeply to him.
He took time to listen, understand and care, bringing warmth to his practice of medicine. This was the same humanity and compassion he extended to everyone under his care.
On behalf of the Moi family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, led by his beloved wife Channa Commanday. We are deeply grateful to them for allowing Dr. Silverstein to walk with Mzee Moi throughout his journey of health. His care and friendship will always be remembered with gratitude.
May God grant him eternal rest and give his family the fortitude to bear this great loss.
As we pray to God to grant her the fortitude to bear the loss of her husband Hafidh Ameir Hassan, our hearts continue to go out to Tanzanian President Mama Samia Suluhu, her family, friends and the people of Tanzania. We convey our heartfelt condolences to them and they remain in our thoughts and prayers at this forlorn moment.
As we mark the 16th Anniversary of the promulgation of the new Constitution in 2010, we are reminded of the historic promise of a free, secure and prosperous nation embodied in the supreme law of our land.
Our Constitution placed the people at the centre of governance by entrenching public participation, protecting fundamental rights and freedoms, and creating Devolution as a critical instrument for taking development and decision-making closer to the people.
But a Constitution is only as meaningful as its implementation. Therefore, as we commemorate Katiba Day, we must honestly ask ourselves if the Constitution has served our people to its fullest potential and if we have fully realised the promise of Devolution, public participation, accountability and equal opportunity for all.
Today should, therefore, be both a celebration of how far we have come and a reminder of the work that remains.
My heartfelt condolences to Hon. Jessica Mbalu, Kibwezi East MP and the entire family following the passing of her beloved husband, Justice Joseph Mutava Mbalu.
Justice Mbalu served his country with distinction, integrity and honour. His passing is a profound loss to his family, the Judiciary and our nation.
May God grant Hon. Jessica, the family and all who mourn him strength and comfort during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
My heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Mama Margaret Chepleke Atudonyang, led by his son Dr. Nicholas Owen Atudonyang, the immediate former Deputy Governor of West Pokot.
Mama Chepleke was a loving and kind matriarch who did not hesitate to extend a helping hand to the people in her community. Her generosity and compassion touched many lives. May the Almighty Lord rest the soul of Mama Margaret Chepleke in eternal peace and grant the family the strength and fortitude to bear this difficult loss.
The continued use of borderline inflammatory language, ethnic profiling, and reckless utterances by political leaders seeking to divide Kenyans along political, regional, or communal lines is regrettable.
Such utterances undermine our national cohesion and threaten peaceful coexistence, especially as we head to the 2027 general elections.
Indeed, our greatest strength as a people lies in our diversity. Therefore, political competition should never turn fellow citizens into enemies, nor should differences in opinion become the basis for communities to distrust one another or for our nation to descend into division.
More importantly, political leaders bear a higher moral responsibility to exercise restraint and uphold dignity in public discourse.
We must continue upholding unity as our shield and greatest defence in moments of challenge and collectively recommit ourselves to a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Kenya.
Earlier today, I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Susan Burns, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Kenya, for an insightful discussion on a range of issues.
We exchanged views on Kenya’s current political and economic landscape, democratic governance, regional stability, and cooperation that advance shared values and prosperity for our people.
STATEMENT ON THE RECENT SKIRMISHES IN ANG’ATA BARIKOI
Once again, the country has witnessed a tragic eruption of violence in Ang’ata Barikoi, Kilgoris Constituency, resulting in the loss of lives, injuries, and destruction of property.
These recurring incidents point to a worrying breakdown in law and order that must be addressed with urgency.
While efforts are underway to restore calm, it is imperative that residents reject violence as a means of expressing grievances and that security agencies exercise restraint and humanity in responding to the unrest.
No cause, however legitimate, can justify the loss of innocent lives or the destruction of property.
We therefore urge both the community and the security apparatus to uphold the rule of law and remain genuinely committed to resolving the underlying issues that continue to fuel tensions within the area.
The people of Ang’ata Barikoi deserve justice, security, and a lasting resolution to the issues at the heart of this conflict.
Hon. Gideon Moi
National Chairman - KANU.
Nairobi, Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
The late Zipporah Kosgey was a woman who radiated warmth, compassion, and kindness. Throughout the years our families knew each other, she remained a steadfast pillar of hope, generosity, and grace, touching the lives of many with her gentle spirit.
Today, I visited the family of Hon. Henry Kosgey in Nairobi to convey my heartfelt condolences and stand with them during this difficult period of mourning.
