My first few weeks as Victims Minister have been full, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
There is no time to waste in making our country safer, protecting survivors and ensuring victims get the support they need.
Here’s some of what I’ve been up to:
It was humbling to meet with Ukranian judges and discuss the rule of law, democracy and human rights. 🇺🇦 🇬🇧
I’m very proud of the work we are doing at @MoJGovUK to support the Ukranian justice system and those that keep it running.
These lawyers work in the most incredibly difficult circumstances, but are crucial to maintaining law and order, and offering the stability required for international investment into Ukraine.
Congratulations to all MoJ staff and partners who have been recognised in His Majesty The King's Birthday Honours List for their outstanding contributions 👏

By the end of England's first World Cup game, we will be one man down.
75% of people who die by suicide in the UK are men. That's one every 90 minutes.
Minister @JakeBenRichards and @andysmanclubuk are talking about it.
We're investing a further £35 million to stop drones being used to smuggle drugs, phones and weapons into our prisons.
This is part of our plan to cut the flow of illicit items that fuel violence and disorder behind bars, with stronger barriers, closer work with police and new technology.
To the gangs responsible: we're shutting you down, and you will face the full force of the law.
The right to peaceful protest is a cornerstone of our democracy, but there is never any justification for attacking police officers, intimidating communities or descending into violent disorder.
These sentences for those rioting in Southampton last week send a clear message that violence on our streets will never be tolerated and you should expect to feel the full force of the law. I pay tribute to the officers who put themselves in harm’s way to protect the public.
Minister @JakeBenRichards, welcome to Riga!
Great to host the Minister for the signing of a UK–Latvia Memorandum of Understanding 🇬🇧🇱🇻 to strengthen cooperation on prisoner transfers, human rights and cross-border justice, while reinforcing our shared support for Ukraine 🇺🇦
Judges are already planning to use a new AI tool to identify trial-ready cases and group similar hearings together - maximising court resources and getting cases heard sooner for victims.
🚨 Today at #LondonTechWeek, Deputy Prime Minister @DavidLammy has announced AI legal assistants for the Crown Court - developed with leading legal experts to speed up justice and cut delays for victims.
Almost every probation officer in England and Wales now has Justice Transcribe - an AI tool that records and transcribes offender meetings automatically. That’s up to 18,750 calendar days freed up every year for frontline work.
AI is transforming justice.
Justice Transcribe is expected to save probation officers the equivalent of 18,750 days of admin every year: now rolled out nationwide.
Next ➡️piloting AI in courtrooms to cut delays and deliver swifter justice for victims.

Fully in support @JakeBenRichards of a modern and informed approach to dealing with children in conflict with the law: it results in better protection of the public as well as removing children from a path of crime.
We’re consulting on proposals to modernise family law and better reflect modern relationships.

Many unmarried, cohabiting couples have limited legal protections if their relationship ends or a partner dies, even after long-term relationships or raising children together.
Labour is consulting on reforms to strengthen the legal protections available to these couples.
Sitting down with Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy, Freddie Fraser finds out what the new Judicial and Legal Diversity Board, co-chaired with Lady Chief Justice Baroness Sue Carr, really means for talented people from all backgrounds who want to become judges.
Had the pleasure of receiving Ms. Catherine Atkison, the UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice for Victims and Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls, @catkinson80, who led the UK delegation to #CCPCJ35.
I commended the UK’s steadfast support to @UNODC and affirmation of its added value in assisting states in tackling the growing interconnected challenges of transnational crimes, including trafficking of drugs and people, as well as cybercrime and terrorism.
We agreed to work towards the follow-up of the outcomes from the UK-championed Global Fraud Summit, which forged international consensus on the growing challenge of digitally enabled fraud, its efforts aimed at ending violence against women and girls, and preparations for the UN Crime Congress in Abu Dhabi.
Flying a drone over a prison is a criminal offence.
It’s an emerging threat to prison security and safety.
We’ve already invested over £40 million into physical security across the prison estate to disrupt criminal gangs, but there’s more to do.
A productive meeting with @catkinson80 to welcome her to the role and discuss our shared commitment to victims.
True progress requires listening to victims' lived experiences through a trauma-informed lens. I look forward to working together to deliver these vital reforms.
