A word on the wildfire prevention funding. In the aftermath of the North Bay Fires in 2018, the Legislature and Jerry Brown reached a budget deal to do $200 million/year for 5 years. Prior to that we were doing pretty much nothing on fuel reduction. Over several decades, radical environmental policy allowed our forests and wild lands to become tinderboxes.

@AllBiteNoBark88 Former wildfire reporter here. This happened at Camp Fire in Paradise too. Winds push fire so fast that only the bottom half of trees show burns scars. Very consistent with strong wind event and heavy fuel load on the ground

@megynkelly Reporters are taught in fire training to have fire gear when going into mandatory evacuation zones. Helmets, nomex, emergency shelters, etc.
The clothespins are just dumb. The fire gear never fits well but it’s for your safety and as a reporter you’re there to do your job.

UPDATE 🚨: I’ve passed multiple homes where it appears the gas lines are still on and fueling the local fires. In talking with residents they have been reaching out to department of gas saying to please turn off their gas lines as it’s making things worse.
