New: 8 of the 21 applicants for Miami-Dade superintendent were found to have met the minimum requirements.
But it's possible more could be considered. See the list of candidates & board discussion here.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools is looking to revive a deal that would move their administrative HQ from its current building to 2 stories in a downtown high-rise.
Here are the details:

“Florida ranked last for the third consecutive report card, scoring just 14 out of 102 points.
…
These are not states struggling against limited resources; they are
states that have made active, sustained choices to abandon their public schools while directing public
money toward private alternatives with documented records of fraud, discrimination, and academic
failure.”

“The state has underfunded public schools to the point where this district is closing the schools that serve children who have the least. These families are not losing their schools because their schools failed them, they are losing their schools because the state failed them”
New: Facing sliding enrollment, Miami-Dade County School Board has closed 9 public schools.
Some had lost more than half of their population in the last decade. Almost all of them were eyed by charter schools under FL's "Schools of Hope" law.

23 days left for Florida challengers to complete the Moms for Libros education questionnaire. Their answers go live next to the incumbent's voting record. https://t.co/p389HFXZG6 #Florida2026#FlaPol
He presentado mi oposición formal. Añada su voz antes del 30 de junio 👇

Florida wants to bar undocumented students from public colleges & adult ed — not by law, but by DOE rule. Lawmakers already rejected this exact restriction this session. I've filed formal opposition. Add your voice before June 30 👇

⏰ Tomorrow is the LAST DAY for Qualifying in Miami.
Every even-district Miami school board seat is currently running unopposed.
No competition. No debate. No real choice.
That's not how democracy is supposed to work. One voice shouldn't decide the future of our kids' education by default.
If you've ever thought about running — or know someone who should — the time is now. Don't let these Miami-Dade seats go uncontested.
📢 Share this. Someone in your network needs to see it.

@joshcowenMI We already see public schools that are wealthier than others, thanks to community supports, and donations driven by zip codes. And sadly, the ones closing the fastest are the ones not in those zip codes.
“But what is not being discussed is the effect that such a system could have on the public school mission. From “we are going to try to give your child the best possible education we can afford” to “we are going to give your child the bare minimum and if you want more than that, you’ll have to either pay for it yourself or go shopping for a voucher.”
From a system funded and controlled locally with assistance from the state to a system that depends on donations funneled through the federal government.”
I would just like to point out that even if the buildings are leased, that doesn’t mean the county will be able to get the property back easily when it’s needed.
Leased is better than sold, but finding another public purpose for the buildings is better.
New: MDCPS is set to vote on closing & consolidating 4 schools. They could vote on more soon, as enrollment, $ declines.
In one case, only 16% of students living within the attendance boundary chose to attend their assigned traditional public school.

💬 “When taxpayers can’t track $270M and public schools are shortchanged by a $398M shortfall, the responsible move is basic oversight, not burying the money in the formula."
No matter where the $ goes, transparency & accountability should follow.👇 https://t.co/gcyzrY6Ef0
