Earlier today i was scrolling Klan artwork and stumbled upon this piece of anti white propaganda on the left titled something like "White Lie", ive decided to take it upon myself to claim it. on the right i have retitled it to "White Truth".

Attached below is an 1871 photograph titled "The contemplated murder of John Campbell" taken at Watson’s Photograph Studio in Raleigh.

This is a recreation of an earlier event that unfolded in the woods of Moore County, North Carolina.

The man in the middle, John A. Campbell, was a prominent racial-equalitist Republican politician in the area, and therefor an enemy to the local Democratic population. The Klan of course would not stand for this.

On the night of August 10th, 1871 the men of the local Kuklos abducted Mr. Campbell from his home wearing the exact garment you see below, they dragged him into the woods and prepared to try him for racial treason. The evidence of course being his party affiliation, which was no secret.

They of course found him guilty, the punishment?Death. They tied a rope around his neck and prepared to hang him for his crimes against the state, his race, and the southern way of life.

Present at the scene was their fellow Klansman, Joseph G. Hester. What they did not know about Mr. Hester is that he was also a US detective that had infiltrated their group.

The subsequent events aren't very well documented but what we do know is that he freed Mr. Campbell and arrested the Klansmen at the scene.

The costumes that these Klansmen were wearing were all taken as evidence. The photo below, paid for by Mr. Hester, shows the real costumes being worn by actors to recreate the scene that had unfolded, they planned to use the scene as some sort of anti-Klan propaganda. Mr. Campbell himself posed in the middle of the photo.

This is one of the only surviving photos of the original Ku-Klux-Klan or their garments, sadly we do not know the fate of these costumes nor much else about Mr. Campbell.
