Today, I had the privilege of presenting the annual report of the Office of Audit and Investigation Services (OAIS) to the UNFPA Executive Board and engaging with Member States on the results achieved over the past year.

The discussion reaffirmed the critical role of independent oversight in strengthening governance, accountability, risk management, and organizational performance. It was particularly encouraging to hear the appreciation expressed by Member States for the quality of OAIS�� work and the tangible results delivered in support of UNFPA’s mandate.

These achievements reflect the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of the entire OAIS team. I am proud to work alongside colleagues who consistently strive for excellence while helping protect UNFPA resources, strengthen internal controls, and uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability.

My sincere thanks to the Executive Board, Member States, UNFPA Executive Director, UNFPA colleagues, and all OAIS colleagues for their continued support and commitment to strengthening oversight across UNFPA.

Today, I had the pleasure of hosting a very insightful session on the use of Artificial Intelligence and data science in investigations and audits, jointly organized with colleagues from UNDP and UN Women.

The discussion highlighted how emerging technologies can support oversight functions by enhancing data analysis, identifying patterns and anomalies, improving efficiency, and strengthening the overall effectiveness of investigations and audits.

A special thanks to Luis, Mohammed for sharing innovative tools and practical demonstrations developed with the support of data science interns from NYU. The session sparked valuable conversations on both the opportunities and the challenges associated with integrating AI into our work, while ensuring integrity, accountability, confidentiality, and respect for due process.

As oversight professionals, we must continue exploring responsible and ethical ways to leverage innovation to better protect organizational resources and the communities we serve.

had the privilege of presenting at the Regional Leadership Meeting in Senegal, engaging with UNFPA Representatives in 22 countries across the region on issues that sit at the heart of our mandate and impact.

In my remarks, I emphasized that integrity is not an abstract principle—it is a daily commitment that underpins credibility, trust, and the effectiveness of our work. It is essential that we continue to foster a culture where ethical conduct is expected, supported, and upheld at all levels.

I also highlighted the critical role of the Office of Audit and Investigation Services (OAIS)—not only as an independent assurance function, but as a trusted advisor to management. By providing insight, foresight, and practical recommendations, OAIS contributes to strengthening governance, risk management, and internal controls across the organization.

Equally important is our collective responsibility to safeguard UNFPA resources. Every decision we make must reflect stewardship, accountability, and a clear focus on ensuring that resources reach those who need them most.

Ultimately, protecting resources is inseparable from protecting the communities we serve—especially women and girls. Upholding integrity and accountability is how we ensure that our mission translates into real, meaningful impact on the ground.
