Agree with my colleague, Prof. Bastress:
"there's a fundamental right to education and that students have a right to attend schools that are safe."
And this bill "threatens to create, or require administrators to operate, schools that are not safe,"

Its unconscionable that $127.1 million WV pandemic relief dollars will be returned to the federal gov’t by Dec 31 cause of our Gov’s misguided priorities. People-centered” proposals to help WV recover from the pandemic go ignored. @PhilKabler https://t.co/57Nyt5ZOOF
Clearly the WV charter school law violates the state's constitution, as the Legislature altered the territory of an existing school district to create a new, independent one, in this case, a charter school. https://t.co/fPXf1IhIQi @SamBrunett@AlbertFralbert@rweingarten
Many have asked me for my reaction to the comments by a member of the Governor’s staff yesterday about the Mountaineer Resilience Project. I’d like to share my thoughts publicly below:
What do you do when you want the $4,600 per-year, per-child education voucher from WV's non-public school vouchers law, but you can't withdraw your kids from public school because you're already private- or home-schooling them?
Well, some may try this:

#WV county residents deserve a local decision and a vote as to the addition of charter in their district. It should not be a state mandate.

Thanks to @DianeRavitch and @SamBrunett for your contributions to this podcast episode about charter school developments here in WV.

HYPOCRISY in West Virginia:
Mask Mandate: Local Control
Vaccination Mandate: Local Control
Charter school opening in your county:
NOPE! THE STATE WILL DECIDE FOR YOU.
I have got to stop watching the Governor’s Covid conferences. At first I watched hopeful he would actually do something. Now it’s like watching someone pouring buckets of kerosene on a house fire.
You plead and plead for people to get vaccinated. They are not. So all we have to protect us is the unvaccinated wearing a mask in public. They are not. All you have left @WVGovernor is mandates. If you want to save lives mandate. Stop the politics. @WV_DHHR @claymarsh#COVID19
Today is the day we give thanks to all those who toiled and labored before us. Those who fought for workers rights, job safety, and a decent living wage. They gave us weekends, 8 hour work days, paid vacation, health insurance, and retirement.
My friends know I’m a Pro-Labor Guy
If @WVEducation is lessening mitigation factors on one end, they need to increase them on the other. WVDE & @WVGovernor should use Fed #COVID dollars to provide N95 masks to all faculty, staff, & students. Increase air filtering capacity increase all safety measures @claymarsh
Your lack of a statewide mask mandate is already separating WVians in our communities. House by house, street by street, board meeting to board meeting people are at each other’s throats! It’s time to take the politics out, keep kids safe, & lead! Do the right thing @WVGovernor
