Every Judge swears to me that it's the easiest thing in the world to get into their judge program. Every non-judge, tells me about endless waitlists, terrible times, and random sign up drops.
I'm glad these IRL events get to be a thing, but I feel this won't fix the issues.

Been testing a lot of op16 Luffy.
It really seems like I should just be playing Enel, as it's the same deck, but with better chump cards and actual removal.
So, like, while the TCG market is stupid strong, there's no need for quality to win out. Everyone's vending, everyone's winning, and until things go back down and the sellers have to fight, the quality of stores will get worse and worse.
I've kinda been in a state of constant alarm for a while now, and it's clearly negatively affected every other aspect of my life.
I'll keep doing my best to keep helping her, but honestly I don't have a long term plan anymore and that's destroying me.
Taking care of my grandmother has been very rough these past few months.
We've dealt with the cancer, but she's declined quite a bit mentally. It's left her with near constant anger and confusion. I'm not great at dealing with it.
Between playing Gundam and One Piece there's multiple $ 1K+ locals a week in Houston. Mix in actual regionals and other games and you can make bank if you're decent.
Card games are wild right now. Playing has almost become a job for a lot of people. It makes me worry.
I think I'll be giving this game some more time, But I'm not sure yet if i want to stick around long term.
it's definitely a big time commitment to get good enough to fully enjoy everything, so we'll see.
TBH if we get a Velcro champ, I'll fully make the plunge.
I played in a riftbound locals for the first time last night. While I enjoyed it, I can't stress enough how much the game plays out like Yugioh with extra steps.
It's got all the same Strengths and Weaknesses.
Con's
- Handtrap & "do you have the out?" gameplay
- High punish, single interaction games
- Some low interactivity decks (Miss Fortune)
- One sided match-ups
- Weak product
- Bad companies running the game
Some of this will lessen with more player skill, but some is core.
A leader like imu has a play pattern through its leader design that is consistent enough to resolve a game in the same method every time. Things aren't modified but instead railroaded.
Leaders with more generic packages, allow for more experimentation.
@MonkeyVanguard I watched the part you linked and its the most non-statement I have ever heard. I geniuenly don't know what you mean. What exactly does carrot leader effect do to modify how cards are used that Mihawk doesn't for example?
@huppfi So all of those builds run the same large package of non-negotiable cards. The cards the leader can work with are very specific. They can't deviate beyond a point, and only get options in a limited niche.
i had hoped you would've understood what a tech card is.
The most you can do with current one piece decks, is modify cards around a core package.
As said Mihawk is less restrictive, but Boa, Imu, and Lucy are very egregious.
Oftentimes the "correct" way to build and play a deck gets stale.
Older green decks, don't have the same pseudo-restrictions. Any green card can work in Bonney, but will have it's play pattern modified by the leaders stun effect and not locked out of consideration
This is why you see Bonney lists with any green top end, that Mihawk can't run
