A believer chalking his own path!
China’s nominal GDP per capita is $14,874. Almost $15,000. India’s is not even $3,000. That gap should embarrass our political class. But hey, at least we have democracy and the RiGhT tO pRoTeSt. Lol.
Democracy matters only as a means to an end. It is not an end in itself. It cannot become a consolation prize for remaining poor. Elections do not excuse weak infrastructure, poor schools, slow courts or the endless obstacles placed before businesses.
The point of government is also to improve ordinary lives. We should demand freedom and prosperity together. Instead, we congratulate ourselves on our political system while treating economic failure as inevitable. Indians deserve better than excuses and slogans.
Would you rather be 5x richer, or have "the right to ProTeSt" SAAR?
btw, paying attention to this country today comes with a psychological tax. the more closely you follow what is unfolding, the harder it becomes to preserve any illusion of normalcy.
India is in a deadlock which is almost impossible to recover from now.
If any political party says, they will amend the laws, acts, reservation etc. to make it better, or to fix its loopholes which leads to misuse, that party will never be able to form the government.
That means none of these laws are ever going to be made better. If at all, it's going to get worse, because appeasement is the key to win elections.
- more freebies
- stricter punishments in protection laws
That's the only logical direction I can see the country going towards. Any rational person can say where we are heading..
No more tweets about E20.
My mileage has dropped to single digits, or barely touching double digits.
And honestly, I think it’s over.
We live in a country where we have hundreds of things to worry about every single day.
The government knows this.
Make enough noise, wait long enough, and people move on. We have jobs, EMIs, kids, parents, health, inflation, taxes… life keeps moving.
That’s probably the real game. Keep people busy enough, and they won’t have the time or energy to fight every battle.
Just to put the numbers in perspective:
MP Ladli Behna: ₹24,000 crore/year
Karnataka Gruha Lakshmi: ₹29,000 crore/year
Estimated cost of running the entire UPI ecosystem: ₹15,000–20,000 crore/year
Just two states alone spend ₹50,000 crores on freebies and direct cash transfer.
But somehow supporting the payment infrastructure used by the whole country becomes too expensive.
That spending priority is difficult to understand.
INDIA 🇮🇳 NEEDS A MASSIVE CIVIC MOVEMENT.
Even as the largest growing major economy, India continues to be one of the filthiest nations with corrupt, non-functional municipalities, terrible urban infrastructure, shockingly bad civic and traffic sense, and no punishment for treating the country like a dump yard, either for officials or citizens.
Unless civic governance and civic sense is fixed, I’m afraid we will remain the Third World.
India’s Municipal corruption is unchecked.
It’s a pity that an entity that affects the quality of our lives the most. There has been barely any effort from the Modi govt to reform this body. Every monsoon this claims 100s of lives. This petty corruption. Nauseating.
Okay. What exactly is happening in the domestic logistics world? First, @IndiaPostOffice hiked their tariffs by 3x, ergo making it costlier than private courier.
Now @ShiprocketIndia seems to be out of options too - that too for a common shipping route between Delhi and Mumbai!
It's 24 days now, our @MyIndusIndBank CCs still blocked. We confirmed the usage over email more than three weeks ago as per the info solicited. Nothing beyond auto-replies.
My parents, being senior citizens cannot chase you forever. Should we cancel and go for a new bank already?
The reason India has terrible roads that break down during monsoon rains is explained phenomenally in this hidden blog by legendary civil engineer PS Kandhal.
The MoRTH/IRC highway specs includes 7 water-trapping bitumen mixes which don't last >1-2yrs. Construction contractors make way more on higher life cycle costs, recurring annual tenders with "fat" pothole repair budgets.
There are also tons of other reasons like a) cutting roads for utility lines without a rebuild b) poor auditing c) straight up using worse materials than the spec d) over-use of funds to visible public roads that causes budget issues, and e) contractors bribing the govt to secure contracts.
@MyIndusIndBank It's been almost a week now since I sent you the DM with the details. Still no one has even cared to call back or help us find us a resolution.
New depths of low-quality service in such critical financial matters...
What a shit show is this @MyIndusIndBank? I gave my UK supplier my CC to charge. It got blocked right away!
Then I gave them the addon card on my account - which clearly had international txns enabled. They charged it successfully. A few mins later, your bank blocked this too!
Furthermore, your IVR is carefully crafted to torture customers into giving up. At repeated steps was asked to enter CC number.
Alas, no option led to unblock the CCs; or speak to customer care. An hour wasted, and an embarrassment faced at the hands of your antiquated systems.
🦔AI companies are bulk-buying rare books, scanning them through high-speed machines that cut the spines off, and shredding the originals. A service called ISBNdb facilitates orders of up to a million books and keeps buyers anonymous. Pre-2022 books are premium because they're free of AI-generated text. A federal judge ruled the practice is fair use because eliminating the original means only one copy exists at a time. Anthropic hired the former head of Google Books partnerships to obtain "all the books in the world."
My Take
This got to me. A bookseller told 404 Media that rare books with almost no surviving copies are being fed into this pipeline. Books that survived wars, fires, and centuries of handling are being shredded so an AI can learn to write a better marketing email.
ISBNdb's website literally says "'AI company destroys two million books' is not a headline that generates sympathy," and they still built an entire business around making it happen quietly. They offer NDAs as a feature. They coach clients to call it "digital preservation."
I've covered AI companies scraping the internet, torrenting libraries, and stealing music. This is worse because it's irreversible. You can re-upload a website. You can reprint a bestseller. You can't replace the last three copies of an 18th-century botanical text once someone shreds them for training data. And the judge said it's legal. So it's going to accelerate.
"We shred rare books and offer NDAs so nobody finds out" is a legitimate business model in 2026. What a timeline.

Everyone knows the Uphaar cinema fire. Fifty nine people who went to watch a war film in Delhi and never came home.
Almost nobody knows that the safest man in that hall, the one person trained and calm enough to walk straight out, chose to stay inside until it killed him.
His name was Captain Manjinder Singh Bhinder.
On the thirteenth of June 1997, he was at the Uphaar cinema in Green Park watching Border, the film about the soldiers of Longewala. He was a real one.
An officer of the 61st Cavalry, a national level horseman who had just won gold at the National Games and was being talked about for the next Asian Games. He was there with his wife and his four year old son.
Partway through the film, a transformer in the building caught fire. Thick black smoke began filling the balcony. The exits were few, badly lit, and some were blocked. People had minutes, and most of them did not know which way to move.
He got his own family up and moving toward the way out, the way any man would.
And then he turned around and went back in.
He understood what a panicking crowd in the dark does. It bunches at the wrong doors, it freezes, it tramples itself. So he put himself in that stairwell and did the job he was trained to do.
He took charge. He steadied people. He guided women and children through the smoke toward the narrow passage that led out, group after group, breathing that air the whole time.
More than a hundred and fifty people got out of that cinema alive because a soldier stood in the dark and refused to leave until they did.
He did not get out. Neither did his wife. Neither did his little boy.
There is a Netflix series about the Uphaar fire. It is told, rightly, through the eyes of two parents who lost their children and spent decades fighting for justice. His name is not in it.
And there is one more thing the country should be made to sit with. After he died saving over a hundred and fifty of its citizens, his elderly parents had to fight the defence ministry for years for his pension, because a clerk's rule said he had not died fighting an enemy.
He walked out of that fire once, with his family, and he was safe. Then he heard the people still screaming inside, and he went back.
India launched a private rocket, a hydrogent train, a barrier free expressway, three war ships, new long range missiles & misside defence shield, won Physics Olympics gold medals, Quantum communication, virtual magnet motor & fast breeder reactor just to divert attention from Jantar Mantar protest. What a terrible country 😡
He's Tukaram Mundhe, a 2005-batch IAS from Maharashtra.
Over the last few weeks, you might have heard his name. That is because he was recently appointed Commissioner of State’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Since taking charge, the FDA has been on an absolute warpath, raiding illegal, fake, synthetic, and adulterated products. From synthetic milk networks and adulterated paneer to illegal gutkha and unhygienic eateries, nothing has escaped his radar.
Mundhe has made it clear that even the most famous names will not get a free pass. His department shocked Mumbai by suspending the food licenses of iconic establishments, such as the 73-year-old Marine Drive ice cream parlor K. Rustom & Co., alongside famous eateries like Shalimar Hospitality, Noor Mohammadi Hotel, and Rahmaniya Restaurant, after surprise inspections uncovered severe hygiene violations, including live pests and expired ingredients.
Such is the fear of his crackdowns that, just two days ago, dairy farmers were caught on video spilling hundreds of liters of synthetic milk after rumors of an impending FDA raid spread.
This is his 25th transfer in a 21-year career, a testament to his refusal to bend to political pressure. It makes you wonder: if just one IAS officer can bring about so much change, where would our country be if every bureaucrat were as uncompromising and proactive as him?
